Graduation Rate Reporting Regulations and Guidance


Timeline


New regulations

  • States must use four-year, adjusted cohort model to calculate the graduation rate by 2011 school year (summer 2011 AYP determinations).

  • States must use four-year, adjusted cohort graduation rate, including subgroup results, for AYP determinations by 2012 school year (summer 2012 AYP determinations).


Four-year adjusted cohort

  • Students exit by transfer to another degree-granting school, home school, age out, die.


New guidance on documentation of transfers


Quiz

  • Fax from school requesting records

    • Yes

  • Written record of conversation with school administrator (date, name of school, name of administrators) confirming student enrolled in school in Texas.

    • Yes

  • Written record of conversation with parent (date, name of school) confirming student enrolled in school in Texas.

    • No

  • Written record of conversation with parent (date, name of school) saying family moved to Mexico.

  • Written record of conversation with parent (date, name of school) saying student enrolled in charter school in AZ.

New ethnicity reporting

  • New rules for ethnicity

    • Hispanic/Not Hispanic

    • Choose one or more racial categories

  • Student level data for R&E applications

    • Provide answers to individual questions for each student

  • Aggregate data for R&E applications

    • Show multi-racial category

  • AYP subgroups

    • Multi-racial will not be added as an AYP subgroup unless a significant number of students report themselves as multi-racial.
