The nation was founded as the result of the Zionist movement, an effort to establish an independent Jewish homeland, which began in the 1890s. • Leaders • President--Shimon PeresPrime Minister--Benjamin Netanyahu

  7. Israeli-Palestine Conflict • US relationship • Israel and the United States are bound closely by historic and cultural ties as well as by mutual interests. Other Middle Eastern countries are jealous and they think the US is favoring Israel. • Israeli Obstacles • Hamas is the ruling party right now and they don’t want Israel to exist. Also the Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas doesn’t want any further negotiations with the Israelis. • Palestinian View • Most people are fine with being a “two state” country, but the political leaders are the ones who are arguing and making a big deal about it. 15. What has been/should be done to stop terrorism in Israel/Palestine? • The Middle East has been the focus of conflict for hundreds of years; and currently Israeli-Palestinian relations are dangerously unstable. As a result of religious and cultural differences, Jews and Arabs battle each other in an attempt to solidify their own sovereignty.  As a result of these unsettling times the President of the United States of America has assembled a Middle East Advisory Committee to inform him on the Arab-Israeli conflict.  You have been chosen as a member of this committee, and it is your job to assume one of the assigned roles and to report to the President the pertinent information that will help him better understand the nature of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and to conclude whether or not a peace plan is resolvable.  Do not take this job lightly; the security of the world depends on a resolution.
