  1. Literature Circles Literature groups or circles give students a chance to discuss issues related to the novel in a smaller, less intimidating environment. We are going to break into small groups to discuss 3 issues today. • In chapter 4, Lorraine says that Norton is a social outcast. What does she mean by this? Decide which of the other characters in the novel might be called outcasts and why. • From our discussion about the conflicts presented in the novel, predict how each conflict might turn out. • Do students today face the same kinds of problems that John and Lorraine face. How are these problems different?
