  1. PRAYER PRAISE AND WORSHIP

  2. Communication with God. Because God is personal, He is concerned about every aspect of our lives. Christians recognize their dependence upon their Creator. They have every reason to express gratitude for God's blessings. But they have far more reason to respond to God than this. They respond to the love of God for themselves. God's love is revealed through the marvelous incarnation and life of Christ, His atoning provision at the Cross, His resurrection, as well as His continuing presence through the Holy Spirit. As we continue to build our foundation, we need vital communication with our creator. This is accomplished through prayer, praise and worship of our God. We will cover each area in the next few pages.

  3. What is prayer? Prayer is an open COMMNICATION with God. The most meaningful prayer comes from a heart that places its trust in the God who has acted and spoken in the Jesus of history and the teachings of the Bible. God speaks to us through the Bible, and we in turn speak to Him in PRAYER , believing prayer. Assured by the Scripture that God is personal, living, active, all-knowing, all-wise, and all-powerful, we know that God can HEAR and RESPONDTO us. A confident prayer life is built on the cornerstone of Christ's work and words as shown by the prophets and apostles in the Spirit-inspired writings of the Bible. Jesus instructed His disciples on what prayer is not and then gave them a pattern of how to pray in Matthew:

  4. Matthew 6:5-13 The pattern is in this simple outline of how to pray: • 1. Our Father in Heaven, ACKNOWLEDGEthe EXISTENCE of God. • 2. Hallowed be your name, How WONDERFUL, HOLY and POWERFULis your name. We WORSHIP and PRAISE your name. • 3. Your kingdom come, Accepting God’s SOVEREINTY and • ROYAL DOMINION over the whole world. • 4. Your will be done, Bringing our WILLS into SUBMISSION under God’s PERFECT plans. • 5. On earth as it is in heaven, God would RULE and REIGN the same as in heaven. • 6. Give us this day our daily bread, Give us what we NEED , to SUSTAIN us today. • 7. Forgive us our debts, An attitude of REPENTENANCE with God. • 8. As we have also forgiven our debtors, An attitude of FORGIVENESS , towards other people • 9. And lead us not into temptation, Walk in the SPIRIT not in the FLESH.

  5. 10. But deliver us from the evil one. Asking for divine PROTECTION. When should we pray? James 5:13-16 Is any one of you in trouble? He should pray. Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise. Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven. Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective. (NIV) 1Thes 5:16-18 Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.(NIV)

  6. Jude 1:20-21 But you, dear friends, build yourselves up in your most holy faith and pray in the Holy Spirit. Keep yourselves in God's love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life.(NIV) Prayer is our life line with God, it is communicating, which is the act of speaking and listening to our bridegroom. In the natural, marriages fail because of the lack of communication between husband and wife. How can we build a relationship if we fail to talk to each other. The same is true with the relationship we have with our Heavenly Father.

  7. MONOLUGUE is an activity performed by one person. I can talk to God all day long and only accomplish half the goal. But DIALOGUE is the exchange between two parties where PLANS and THOUGHTS are mutually shared.

  8. What is Praise? An act of worship or acknowledgment by which the virtues or deeds of another are recognized and extolled. The praise of man toward God is the means by which we express our joy to the Lord. We are to praise God both for who He is and for what He does. Praising God for who He is calledADORATION . Praising Him for what He does is known as THANKSGIVING . Praise of God may be in song or prayer, individually or collectively, spontaneous or prearranged, originating from the emotions or from the will. The godly person will echo David's words, "My praise shall be continually of You... And [I] will praise You yet more and more" (Psalms. 71:6,14).

  9. Psalms 106:1-2 Praise the LORD. Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever. Who can proclaim the mighty acts of the LORD or fully declare his praise?(NIV) Praise. The natural outgrowth of faith, worship, confession, and adoration is praise. We speak well of one whom we highly esteem and love. The one whom we respect and love above all others naturally receives our highest commendation. We praise Him for His "mighty acts... according to His excellent greatness!" and for His "righteous judgments”. For God Himself, for His works, and for His words, His people give sincere praise.

  10. We give thanks, because we have not received what we deserved. Because if we got what we "deserved”, we would be condemned because of our guilt. As sinners, we are not people of God by nature. We have no claim upon His mercy or grace, nevertheless, He has forgiven our sins, granted us acceptance as His people, and given us His righteous standing and a new heart and life. Ingratitude marks the ungodly, believers in contrast, live thankfully. God has been at work on our behalf in countless ways. So in everything, even for the discipline that is unpleasant, we give thanks. Take a moment to think of all the things we can be thankful for.

  11. What is Worship? In worship we recognize what is of highest worth-- not ourselves, others, or our work, but GOD. Only the highest divine being deserves our highest respect. Guided by Scripture, we set our values in accord with God's will and perfect standards. Before God, angels hide their faces and cry, "Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts” Worship is the HIGHEST level of communication between God and man. As He reveals a portion of His character. I respond in praise to His glorious light. Overjoyed at my response, He then shows me another facet of Himself to which I respond with another acclamation of worship. The divine communication between us fulfills His original desire with Adam in the garden.....to walk together sharing thoughts, ideas and emotions.

  12. Worship is:BECOMING like Him! TREASURING God! GIVING to God! DETHRONING Idols. FAITH focus! Worship is not: SELF-CENTERED or PERFORMANCE. only AT CHURCH. God does not desire worship alone He desires us to be true WORSHIPPERS in spirit and truth. Worship is a continual walking in relationship with God. The condition to receiving God’s full blessing is absolute SURREND to Him.

  13. True WORSHIPERS are one who sees the Lord daily in private and through life’s mundane activities while maintaining a Kingdom perspective and heart condition. Worship is not PERFORMANCE based, but it is verbally describing our relationship with the Lord of all. Romans 12:1 Hindrances to worship are 1. UNBELIEF ,one of the greatest problems in worship is pride, the root of pride is UNBELIEF. 2. FEELINGS of INADEQUACY, improper views of ourselves fit into the category of pride. I find it hard to ignore the painful reality that I’m not yet who I want to be. 3. FEAR of being KNOWN, intimidation and self-consciousness are destructive in the pursuit of knowing God. 4. FEAR of FATHER GOD, wrong concepts of Father God. We superimpose our unhealthy father figures onto God the Father. 5. FEAR of INTIMACY, we have trouble expressing our true feelings 6. SIN PATTERNS , life-dominating sin, stumbling frequently and living a defeated life will cause us to miss the opportunity to experience true worship.

  14. Galatians 2:20 "I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me, and delivered Himself up for me.(NAS) John 15: "I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. "I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.(NIV)

  15. There is a time though when it is time to celebrate with the family. As His family we find joy in gathering in His presence, but our family times are more than careless light hearted events-they are time to deal with family issues. We must be aware there are: 1. SINS to CONFESS. 2. MERCIES to ENTREAT. 3. BATTLES to be WAGED . 4. PRAISES to be SUNG. 5. Areas of LORDSHIP to be ACKNOWLEDGED. 6. ENCOURAGEMENT and CORRECTION to be MADE In true worship God is preeminent and the center of our attention. Conversely, in false worship I am preeminent and my needs are the center of attention. Ministry to the Lord in corporate worship provides opportunity for the Spirit to impart Holy Life to us and to birth God-Breathed vision and strategies into a people obedient to carry out His plans. Corporate worship will bring us together in unity.

  16. In true worship God is preeminent and the center of our attention. True Worship is: • About the Father, not my feelings. • About Change, not easing our consciences • About who He is, not about what we aren’t

  17. SINGING: Psalms 63:1-5 Why we worship the way we do. Expressing Praise and Worship, we must remind our self who the worship is for anyway, so lets look at the Word for instruction: O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water. I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory. Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you. I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands. My soul will be satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips my mouth will praise you.(NIV)

  18. Psalms 98:1-9 Sing to the LORD a new song, for he has done marvelous things; his right hand and his holy arm have worked salvation for him. The LORD has made his salvation known and revealed his righteousness to the nations. He has remembered his love and his faithfulness to the house of Israel; all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God. Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth, burst into jubilant song with music; make music to the LORD with the harp, with the harp and the sound of singing, with trumpets and the blast of the ram's horn-- shout for joy before the LORD, the King. Let the sea resound, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it. Let the rivers clap their hands, let the mountains sing together for joy; let them sing before the LORD, for he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world in righteousness and the peoples with equity.(NIV)

  19. SHOUTING: Psalms 66:1-4 Shout with joy to God, all the earth! Sing the glory of his name; make his praise glorious! Say to God, "How awesome are your deeds! So great is your power that your enemies cringe before you. All the earth bows down to you; they sing praise to you, they sing praise to your name." Selah(NIV) CLAPPING OF HANDS: Psalms 47:1-2 Clap your hands, all you nations; shout to God with cries of joy. How awesome is the LORD Most High, the great King over all the earth!(NIV) Isaiah 55:12 You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.(NIV)

  20. LIFTING OF HANDS: Psalms 141:1-2 O LORD, I call to you; come quickly to me. Hear my voice when I call to you. May my prayer be set before you like incense; may the lifting up of my hands be like the evening sacrifice.(NIV) 1 Timothy 2:8 I want men everywhere to lift up holy hands in prayer, without anger or disputing.(NIV) BOWED IN WORSHIP: Nehemiah 8:5-6 Ezra opened the book. All the people could see him because he was standing above them; and as he opened it, the people all stood up. Ezra praised the LORD, the great God; and all the people lifted their hands and responded, "Amen! Amen!" Then they bowed down and worshiped the LORD with their faces to the ground.(NIV)

  21. ROMANS 14:11 It is written: "'As surely as I live,' says the Lord, 'every knee will bow before me; every tongue will confess to God.'"(NIV) Philippians 2:9-11 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.(NIV)

  22. DANCING: Ecclesiastes 3:1 There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven: 4 a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance,(NIV) Psalms 30:10-12 Hear, O LORD, and be merciful to me; O LORD, be my help." You turned my wailing into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy, that my heart may sing to you and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give you thanks forever.(NIV) 2 Sam 6:12-15 Now King David was told, "The LORD has blessed the household of Obed-Edom and everything he has, because of the ark of God." So David went down and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obed-Edom to the City of David with rejoicing. When those who were carrying the ark of the LORD had taken six steps, he sacrificed a bull and a fattened calf. David, wearing a linen ephod, danced before the LORD with all his might, while he and the entire house of Israel brought up the ark of the LORD with shouts and the sound of trumpets.(NIV)

  23. We pray, praise and worship with all our beings. As a congregation we worship with the visual arts (banners), dramatic arts(human videos) and instruments that are used to bring us to true worship. We need to develop a lifestyle of worship with our Heavenly Father. This is a daily offering, not just a weekly occurrence.
