PBIS/Classroom Management • School wide adoption of Positive Behavior Interventions and Support • The emphasis on school-wide systems of support that include proactive strategies for defining, teaching, and supporting appropriate student behaviors to create positive school environments. • Be responsible, Be respectful, Be safe, Be a professional student • Rewards- Students receive Paw-sitive paws and Paw-sitive referrals sent home • Classroom Expectation: Class Constitution built by students • Students may receive minor consequences of copying the class constitution

  6. Daily Schedules • Our daily schedules are posted outside our classroom doors. We have copies available for you to take home tonight. • Included in our daily routines: • - 8:30-8:45 - Grab n’ Go Breakfast - 5th year! • - Flouride is given after breakfast each morning • - A healthy snack is provided each day-5th year! • - Brain Breaks - 10 min. most afternoons • - 11:40-12:25- Daily Lunch and recess time • Note: Late Openings-Doors open at 10:30am on the third Wednesday of every month, except November.

Language Arts • Scott Foresman/ Reading Street. • Small group plan for differentiated instruction: on-level, strategic intervention and advanced. • Skills overview: oral language, phonics, blending sounds, decoding with common word parts, spelling, high frequency and amazing words. • Reading covers: comprehension, vocabulary and fluency using high level questioning strategies. • Language Arts: writing, grammar, speaking, and listening. • Independent learning activities including Daily 5 (supplemental) • The program also integrates: science and social studies standards. • Weekly handwriting practice - D’Nealian style • DIEBELS diagnostic assessment used to measure progress throughout the year

Home/School Activities • Students will receive homework every week through May. • Assignments will cover what has been learned at school during the current and previous weeks. • Completion of homework is very important and is used for grading at report card time. • Students should read at least 15 to 20 mins everyday • Ability needs will be addressed. (differentiation) • Limit students to only the daily assignment requests. • Homework goes home on Monday and is returned on Friday.

Potential Field Trips • Fall and Spring visits to Whitaker Pond • Play downtown • Zoo • OMSI • Neighborhood walks • We will ride Tri-Met, take school buses and walk for our field trips this year. • Chaperones will be needed for every field trip. Please let us know if there is a field trip you prefer to attend and we will make every effort to accommodate your request. District volunteer forms will need to be up- to-date in order to attend. 13

  14. We are Moving! • This is our last year in this building! • We are moving to a swing site (Tubman) after this school year • We will be in this swing site for two years • This is all I Know!
