  2. Carolyn MacklerBiography • Born in Manhattan, on July 13, 1973. • Loves reading and writing • Felt like a misfit…did not enjoy Junior High • Saved by books (and her BF- Stephie) • First book read was The Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum

Professional Life • Attended Vassar College and majored in Art History • Spent a semester in Paris • After graduating, she drove to Seattle where she waitressed but hated it and ended up moving back home to New York. • Landed an internship at Ms. Magazine (wrote magazine articles) • Began writing young adult novels • Fall of 1997, she took a class at NYU called “Beginning Your Novel.” • During this class is when she began her first draft of Love and Other Four-Letter Words. • Struggled to pay rent • Sold her first novel in Spring 1999

Personal Life • Began dating her husband Jonas in 2000 • Married in 2003 • Wrote her second book The Earth, My Butt, and Other Big Round Things • Lives in Manhattan with her husband and sons • Refers to NY as city of misfits… where she feels that she has finally found a place where she belongs.
