  3. Mission and Vision Mission The Olympia School District, in partnership with our community, prepares all students to be successful citizens in a changing and diverse world. Vision A world class education… every student, every day.

  4. Goals 1. We meet our students’ needs by continuous improvement of existing learning opportunities and the development of new programs. 2. We target our resources to meet the unique needs of all students.

  5. Goals 3. We ensure that every student has an advocate within the district to support her/his needs by providing them with the skills, knowledge and understanding of what they need to be successful in school and beyond. 4. We support our students and families by increasing communication and accessing resources in our district and community.

  6. Goals 5. We ensure that people from all cultures, religions and beliefs are welcome and supported in our district.

  7. Eliminate current achievement gap between student groups by 2011. All students will meet or exceed standard on the 10th grade WASL. Integrate Reading, writing and math will be throughout the curriculum. Increase graduation rates to 90% by 2010. Create district middle school highly capable program. Implement Olympia Regional Learning Academy: Parent Partnership Program Online Learning Expand world language opportunities to increase the number of students becoming fluent in two languages. Students will perform in the top 5% on national and international assessments. Implement an annual curriculum adoption cycle to reflect student achievement needs and priorities. Decrease the number of student dropouts by 50% by 2008 and by 50% again by 2011. Encourage international exchange programs for students. Goal 1 We ensure continuous student achievement by continuous improvement of existing learning opportunities and the development of new programs.

  8. Recruit and retain a highly skilled and diverse workforce. Align staff development programs to research- and industry-based practices. Develop and implement career growth opportunities for all staff based on leadership skills. Utilize staff skill and expertise in collaborative decision-making at all levels of the district. Provide a safe, civil and culturally sensitive work environment for every staff member. Protect our community’s investment in facilities with a fully funded preventative maintenance program. Use data, in conjunction with professional judgment, to prioritize resources. Use state-of-the-art technology to support student learning, parent communication, instruction and administrative efficiency. Continue resource conservation to maximize fiscal resources and model environmental stewardship. Maintain a 3-5% fund balance to provide district fiscal stability. Access external options for human and fiscal resource support. Goal 2We target our fiscal and human resources to meet the unique needs of all students.

  9. Design and implement a comprehensive guidance and counseling program by 2008-09. Expand models for greater student involvement in school decisions and activities. Employ a more diverse workforce to better support student learning and reflect the diversity in our community and the world. Utilize community resources to support student social, emotional, academic and career goals. Provide a safe, civil and culturally sensitive learning environment for every student. Goal 3We ensure that every student has an advocate within the district to support her/his needs by providing them with the skills, knowledge and understanding of what they need to be successful in school and beyond.

  10. Implement Parent Access in every school in the next two years. Expand early learning programs to support school readiness for all children. Strengthen school site councils and/or parent organizations to increase parental/family involvement and communication. Hire district volunteer coordinator to recruit, screen, and train volunteers to support students and staff. Increase the use of community resources to support families and students. Goal 4We support our students and families by increasing communication and accessing resources in our district and community.

  11. Provide a safe, civil and culturally sensitive learning environment for all. Provide instructional materials that reflect diverse student needs, priorities and values. Identify and share community resources to support student and family social, emotional, academic and career needs. Employ and develop a highly skilled, diverse work force. Conduct student, staff, parent and community surveys regarding school climate and culture. Encourage international exchange programs for students and staff. Goal 5 People from all cultures, religions and beliefs are welcome and supported in our district.
