  1. Baby Come Back! February 24, 2008

  2. Hosea 3: 1-5 1 Then the LORD said to me, “Go again, love a woman who is loved by a lover and is committing adultery, just like the love of the LORD for the children of Israel, who look to other gods and love the raisin cakes of the pagans.”2 So I bought her for myself for fifteen shekels of silver, and one and one-half homers of barley. 3 And I said to her, “You shall stay with me many days; you shall not play the harlot, nor shall you have a man—so, too, will I be toward you.” 4 For the children of Israel shall abide many days without king or prince, without sacrifice or sacred pillar, without ephod or teraphim. 5 Afterward the children of Israel shall return and seek the LORD their God and David their king. They shall fear the LORD and His goodness in the latter days.

  3. Adulteries of Israel Adulteries of Israel were consistent, running after fame, notoriety, accolades of man, glitz, glamour, worthless pursuits.  Consistently their hearts would stray from God!

  4. An Example 1. Then the LORD said to me, “Go again, love a woman who is loved by a lover and is committing adultery, just like the love of the LORD for the children of Israel, who look to other gods and love the raisin cakes of the pagans.” • In verse 1 of our text we see that the Lord required the prophet Hosea to love a harlot to personify God’s love for His children that “go a-whoring”

  5. Two evils: Idolatry Intoxication Hosea 4:12-13 12 My people ask counsel from their wooden idols,      And their staff informs them.       For the spirit of harlotry has caused them to stray,       And they have played the harlot against their God.        13 They offer sacrifices on the mountaintops,       And burn incense on the hills,       Under oaks, poplars, and terebinths,       Because their shade is good.       Therefore your daughters commit harlotry,       And your brides commit adultery. Hosea 4:1  1 Hear the word of the LORD,      You children of Israel,       For the LORD brings a charge against the inhabitants of the land:      “ There is no truth or mercy       Or knowledge of God in the land. Hosea 4:6 6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.       Because you have rejected knowledge,       I also will reject you from being priest for Me;       Because you have forgotten the law of your God,       I also will forget your children.

  6. Redeemed! 2 So I bought her for myself for fifteen shekels of silver, and one and one-half homers of barley • In verse 2, God had to buy back the Harlot, a Renewed Covenant, A Kinsmen Redeemer.

  7. Unmerited Favor! (Grace) 3 And I said to her, “You shall stay with me many days; you shall not play the harlot, nor shall you have a man—so, too, will I be toward you.” • In verse 3, God marries the Harlot & commends her to stay, abide, remain with Him & forsake her harlotries- Take them back with unconditional, unmerited favor!

  8. Break It Down 4 For the children of Israel shall abide many days without king or prince, without sacrifice or sacred pillar, without ephod or teraphim. • In verse 4 we see that without a king there is no kingdom rule—things are out of order. • 6 In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes. • Without a sacrifice- we have nothing to offer God that would be acceptable—but we still offer all out of love • Romans 12:1   I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.

  9. Break It Down 4 For the children of Israel shall abide many days without king or prince, without sacrifice or sacred pillar, without ephod or teraphim. • Without sacrifice or sacred pillar—we have no standing on our own. The Pillar also represents the Word—prophetically speaking that there would be starvation from not being in the Word • Without an ephod- without a shoulder garment- Ex. 28: 6, An elaborate garment by which Aaron, high priest, symbolically bore Israel on his shoulders into God’s presence! God will not answer or communicate with them. • Without teraphim-  household gods & idols (disgraceful things) that are useless!  Rev. 18: 9-14, p. 1986, a burning of incense!  Lots of programs, but Prayerlessness!

  10. Seek Him While He May Be Found 5 Afterward the children of Israel shall return and seek the LORD their God and David their king. They shall fear the LORD and His goodness in the latter days. • Vs. 5- After many days, Israel will turn back to their King, the Son of David, Messiah & will again seek the Lord,  Jesus told the religious leaders of His day… • John 7: 34, “You will seek Me and not find Me and where I am you cannot come.“ Isa. 55: 6, “Seek the Lord while He may be found, call upon Him while He is near.”

  11. Earmarks of this Age:  1.  Idle/Idol sex- Judgment- Impotence, Infertility, STD's skyrocketing.  Prov. 1: 30-31, "They would have none of My counsel and despised My every rebuke.  Therefore, they shall eat the fruit of their own way and be filled to the full with their own fancies." AIDS

  12. Earmarks of this Age & Biblical Comparisons:  2.  Self-exaltation- Judgment- premature senility/brain disease/disorder.  Daniel 4: 31-33  King Nebuchadnezzar was driven from his dwelling place to eat grass with the beasts of the field. 3.  Self-indulgence- Judgment- flesh-eating diseases.  Romans 8: 6, "So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God."

  13. Earmarks of this Age & Biblical Comparisons:  4.  Self-fulfilled prophecy-based on delusion/greed/fleshly desires.  Judgment- Leprous diseases like Gehazi 2 Kings 5, when he manipulated the healed Syrian general, Naaman, to give him money and garments as payment for the healing.  Gehazi suffered the leprous condition that Naaman had been healed from, as a result of his greed.

  14. Earmarks of this Age & Biblical Comparisons:  5.  Financial Corruption, extortion of the saints, prosperity gospel aberrations- Judgment: Acts 5- Ananias & Sapphira quick deaths.

  15. Earmarks of this Age & Biblical Comparisons:  6.  Compromising the Word of God to receive favor of man- Judgment- diseased feet/legs.  2 Chron. 16: 12, "And in the 39th year of his reign, Asa became diseased in his feet and his malady was severe; yet, in his disease he did not seek the Lord, but the physicians."  United with a pagan king to gain his favor and experienced sickness and death, as a result.

  16. Earmarks of this Age & Biblical Comparisons:  7.  Turning their back on God.  Judgment- boils, skin ailments.  Plague in Egypt, Ex. 9: 8-12, Pharaoh hardened his heart, yet again!

  17. Romans 5: 20b, "But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more."  IN CHRIST, THERE IS FORGIVENESS, HEALING, RESTITUTION, RESTORATION!

  19. Now Is The Day of Salvation! 2 Cor. 6: 2, “For He says, In an acceptable time, I have heard you, and in the day of salvation, I have helped you, behold, now is the accepted time, behold, now is the day of salvation!”

  20. HE IS THE LORD OF HOSTS, YHVH, JEHOVAH SABBAOTH!! • With DAVID, He worked through a SMALL STONE AND SLING to humiliate the giant  GOLIATH! • With MOSES, He worked through a A STICK, A ROD! • With ELISHA, He worked through a mantle in his hand to divide the River Jordan. • With JOSHUA, it was JUST some loud SHOUTING and  the WALLS OF JERICHO came tumbling down! • With GIDEON, He worked through trumpets in each man’s hand to defeat the Midianites! • With SAMSON, He worked through the JAW BONE OF A DONKEY! • With PETER, He worked through SHADOWS that healed! • With PAUL, He worked through HANDKERCHIEFS that healed the recipients!

  21. Our Decision • We, God’s people, chose not to marry the harlotry of the world, but we chose to beCovenanted with the Living God and His Living Church, who love Him, serve Him,Humbly do His bidding, by the power & authority of the King Eternal, Jesus Christ, our Lord, Amen!

  22. Walk & Live In the Light • Live in His glory, don’t look to the left or the right, keep focused on Him & He will give you perfect peace that surpasses understanding! 1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. 1 Samuel 2:35 And I will raise Me up a faithful priest, that shall do according to that which is in My heart and in My mind; and I will build him a sure house; and he shall walk before Mine anointed for ever.

  23. Behold I Come! Daniel 7:13-14 I was watching in night visions and behold! with the clouds of heaven, on like a man came: he came up to the One of Ancient Days, and they brought him before Him. He was given Dominion, honor and kingship, so that all peoples, nations and languages would serve him; his dominion would be an everlasting dominion that would never pass, and his kingship would never be destroyed.    Rom. 13: 12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand, therefore, let us cast off the works of darkness and let us put on the armor of light. The night is far spent, the Yom is at hand, Therefore, let us cast off the deeds of darkness & let us put on the tallit of Light.” • Repent and be restored!
