  1. Southern California Coastal Ocean Observing System(SCCOOS) HF RADAR Network • “SCCOOS brings together coastal observations in the Southern California Bight to provide information necessary to address issues in climate change, ecosystem preservation and management, coastal water quality, maritime operations, coastal hazards and national security.” • High Frequency radar measures ocean surface current from shore based radar stations. • Networking key requirement to provide near-realtime data

  2. National HF Radar Network

  3. SCCOOS HF Radar Network

  4. SIO HF Radars

  5. San Clemente Island 45 Mbps 5.8 Ghz SDSU/Hillcrest/CNM 45 Mbps 5.8 Ghz HPWREN connected sites Point Loma/Los Coronados 10 Mbps 5.8 Ghz

  6. SDSC: Radial Coverage

  7. Importance of HPWREN to SCCOOS HF Radar Network • San Clemente Island Radar provides coverage for much of SCCOOS region. • HPWREN link to San Clemente Island allows near-realtime observations of ocean surface current. • HPWREN link also allows streaming of raw data to SIO data archives.
