  3. CLASSIFICATION OF FOODS • Classification by origin: - Foods of animal origin - Foods of vegetable origin • Classification by chemical composition: - Proteins • - Fats • -Carbohydrates • -Vitamins • -Minerals

  4. CLASSIFICATION BY PREDOMINANT FUNCTION Body building foods: -meat, milk, poultry, fish, eggs, pulses etc Energy giving foods: -cereals, sugars, fats, oils etc. Protective foods: -vegetables, fruits, milk, etc

Basics • For every physical activity, the body requires energy and the amount depends on the duration and type of activity • Energy demand exercise. • Metabolic systems supply energy Aerobic & Anaerobic. • Energy is obtained ---- body stores or the food • Glycogen -- main source of fuel used by the muscles -- aerobic and anaerobic exercise.
