  2. Welcome!I’m thrilled to be your teacher! • Mrs. Weizer, formerly Miss McConnell, a graduate of NPHS • B.A. in English from Muhlenberg College • M.A. in English from Arcadia University • Lived and studied abroad one year at the University of St Andrews in Scotland • 8th year at NPHS; 9th year of teaching • Also taught in Allentown (middle school) and West Lawn (home of NFL QB Chad Henne) • Married this summer, July 27, and honeymooned in Jamaica, mon! • Founded the Dance Team, former coach; current adviser to the Accolade

  3. I’m about 2 in this picture. Notice my “stove”! Me and my two younger sisters, Lindsay & Emily I danced from age 5 to 13. Here I am at age 11, posing at the end of my Bluebird solo. My kindergarten picture. I attended North Wales Elementary School & Pennbrook Middle School!

  4. Here I am with my husband, Mr. Weizer, at our wedding ceremony. We were married on July 27 at the William Penn Inn. It was a beautiful day—the best day EVER! Here I am getting ready for my senior prom in 2000!

  5. A little more about me . . . • Mom to a tiny black kitten named Amelia • LOVE to read, write, cook, and shop • Used to be a member of a National Championship hip hop dance team—we’re on YouTube • Die-hard Phillies & Flyers fan • Can’t go a day without listening to music: Lady Gaga, The Beatles, The Traveling Wilburys, Biggie, 2Pac, Outkast, Jay-Z, Kid Cudi, Raphael Saadiq, Motown (Stevie Wonder, The Temptations, Boyz II Men), Michael Jackson, Classic Rock (Led Zeppelin, Cream, Jimi Hendrix, Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, The Who, Fleetwood Mac, etc.) . . . Almost everything except country & screaming music • I’ve wanted to be an English teacher since I was 12 years.

  6. What are the rules* in this room?*I hesitate to call these rules because they are actually attitudes and ways of behaving. Be on time! Be ready! Be safe! Be courteous! Be heard! Be hungry to learn! Be civil! Be original! I expect that as juniors in high school, you understand how to act in a classroom. If you are not able to follow these Eight Be-Attitudes, be prepared to experience consequences.

  7. What will I be doing this year? Summer Reading Quiz on Of Mice and Men is TUESDAY, September 11th, an English testing day. • Other topics: • Short Stories • Poems • Vocabulary • Writing . . . Lots of writing! • Grammar • Anything and everything! • Major works: • Fahrenheit 451 • The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass • The Great Gatsby • The Crucible

  8. How will I be graded? • We’ll check out the phenomenal grading policy I have created for you. • Highlights and Key Concepts: • Homework will be checked randomly. If all homework assignments are completed, your grade will increase by 2%. If one to two assignments are missed, your grade will not be affected. If you miss more than two assignments, your grade will decrease by 1% for each missed assignment. • Students who have completed ALL homework assignments are eligible for extra credit. Extra credit is NOT a substitute for doing your assigned work. • English testing days are B, D, F—even vocabulary quizzes have to be on testing days now—no more quiz every Friday

  9. Back to the laptops… Fill out the survey through the website I directed you to earlier. Your answers will give me plenty of information about you! The more I know about you, the better I can teach you! Once you are finished, hit SUBMIT. Close your laptop.

  10. Group Time! • Gather underneath the chart paper that has your name. • Introduce yourselves. Pick a recorder. • Flip the paper over. The back is where you’ll be recording this information. • Find a common letter in your names (first, last, or middle). • Come up with an adjective that describes your group. The adjective MUST start with that common letter. • i.e. If I was working with Mrs. Lawler, Mr. Maurer, and Mr. Manero, we could choose the letter “R” or even “E.” We might call ourselves Team Radical or Team Erudite. • Once you’ve come up with your team name, write it at the top of your paper. Be as creative (or not) as you want.

  11. We’re all…human? Once you have your group name, I want you to come up with as many common traits as you can. Think about what makes you all similar. Start with the obvious and then move towards the more obscure…if you can! Maybe you all have a size 14 shoe or were born on the 4th of July. Write your common traits on the top half of your paper, under your team name. Try to come up with at least four or five common traits.

  12. Only one of us is . . . a celebrity? Then, brainstorm unique traits and qualities-- items that only apply to one person in the group. Find at least two unique qualities and strengths per person. Again, go beyond the obvious. Write these unique traits on the bottom half of the paper. Once all groups are finished, you will ALL share what you’ve found.
