  2. Over the Holidays you must:- • Collect at least 15 images relating to World War 2. • Use a variety of images from different sources. Find some on the internet, some from magazines or brochures, visit your local library. Every library in the country has a book or two on World War 2 . • Some images are incredibly powerful and upsetting so you might want a grown up at home to help you select the right images. • You might be related to someone who served in the war, great Grandma or Grandad perhaps. Perhaps you can bring in photos of them in their homes/uniforms/ or any memorabilia they may have. Don’t bring the actual objects in, photos will be just fine. • You must bring these images with you on the first day back after the holidays

  4. Using the images that you have collected over the holidays, you will produce a research page. Your teacher will go through this with you so don’t mount up any pictures, just bring them back to your first lesson You will then concentrate on one of the following projects Graphics – a propaganda poster Food- rationing and grow your own food Textiles- make do and mend Product design- a flying machine • Your tasks when you arrive back to school

Learning Objectives: Understand the components of WW2 design tools Understand how design used to appeal to particular group / promote a particular message. Learning Route: • Peer work to share findings with a partner/small group. • What images have you found? • What words have you found? • What are the background images? • Look at a Selection of Propaganda Posters • Use examples from presentation to discuss images seen • Who were they appealing to and how? • Create a paragraph to discuss different images seen. • Begin work on RESEARCH PAGE to produce a PROPAGANDA POSTER

  7. Lesson one – Research on WW2 Design • In this lesson you are going to work individually, in pairs and in small groups to think about HOW World War Two influenced design. Starter Task: Working in pairs or small groups, share your research from the holidays. • What images have you got? • What do these images show about design in WW2?

What is the message that this poster communicates? • Why is it important for this message to be delivered to this audience at this moment in time? • How does it use language, colour, spacew and symbols to communicate? • What facts and specific details does the poster use? Are the facts verifiable and believable? • What emotions does the poster use to communicate its message?
