  1. R Richardson J Journey T To S Success What is RJTS? RJTS, Richardson Journey to Success is a whole school values education and social skills program which has been in use at Richardson Primary School for eight years. The program is constantly changing and is individually tailored to meet the particular needs of students at any given time.

  2. R Richardson J Journey T To S Success Key Components • The RJTS program is made up of five key components – • Teacher planning sessions • Whole school RJTS Assemblies fortnightly • Circle Time in classrooms • Individual student Growth Diaries • End of Term Celebration

  3. R Richardson J Journey T To S Success Planning Sessions Whole school planning sessions are held at the beginning of each term. The school staff meet to discuss the current environment in the school. The staff then decide on which areas need attention. Topics are then selected to highlight particular values for the next two weeks. In this way the program always meets the current needs of the school.

  4. R Richardson J Journey T To S Success RJTS Assemblies To introduce the new concepts for the fortnight, the whole school meets for an RJTS assembly. The concepts are introduced in a fun and explicit manner. The assembly may include a performance, a short video, a song or a shared story which highlights the key values to be focused upon. Students engage with the concept and begin to develop their understandings.

  5. R Richardson J Journey T To S Success Circle Time RJTS highlights the benefits of Restorative Practices and includes many important elements. One of these key areas is Circle Time. In the alternate week to the RJTS Assembly, each class engages in a circle time lesson which focuses on the key value to be studied in that week. This is an opportunity for students to further connect with the topic.

  6. R Richardson J Journey T To S Success Growth Diary Each student has an RJTS Growth Diary, which tracks the progress of the child’s development over the entire year. The students usually complete their growth diary after returning from the RJTS assembly. The growth diary includes activities such as concept worksheets, art based personal records and reflections. These books are based on the growth diary of M&M Pathways together with a Richardson staff interpretation .

  7. R Richardson J Journey T To S Success Staff Survey As a part of our values project, we evaluated the effectiveness of our current program. We surveyed our current staff to gauge their opinions about RJTS. These were some of the responses received.

  9. R Richardson J Journey T To S Success Student Survey Whilst evaluating our current program, we also surveyed our student population. The results were encouraging, with the majority of students feeling as though they benefit from the RJTS program. Results indicate that the program has assisted the majority of students in feeling as though they are a valued and included as part of the school.

  10. R Richardson J Journey T To S Success RJTS Topics The RJTS Program covers a wide variety of topics. All of these topics link to the Nine Values for Australian Schooling. Many of the topic names become ‘catch cries’ for the students within the school, which helps to reinforce the concept. Some of the topics include – • Care and Compassion • Attitude Matters • Respect • Hands Off, Feet Off • Pulling Strings • Trash and Treasure Behaviour • My Job, Your Job • Bound, Bound and Rebound • Stop, Think, Do • Winners are Grinners • Sink like a Stone • My Choices Leave Me Standing Alone • Protective Behaviours • Team Work • Quality Person • Getting Along • Harmony Day • Resilience

  11. RJTS Mural The centre circle represents Richardson Primary School. The other seven circles going out of the centre represent the seven years of RJTS and the grades from Kinder to Year 6. The feet demonstrate growing. They start little and get bigger. This symbolises each students own journey of growing bigger. The RJTS letters are painted as boomerangs. There is an Emu boomerang, Kangaroo boomerang and a Returning boomerang. Boomerangs show that when you send good out to the community it comes back to you. The hands are painted black and white which represents our indigenous and non-indigenous community working together. The seven circles connect everyone in our school who got their hands painted. The children’s hands reach out from the RPS circle. This shows them growing out into the community. RJTS allows our students to be proud, successful, respectful and safe as they venture out into the wider community. The teachers and staff of Richardson got their hands painted on the sides. Their hands are reaching towards the students. The teachers support the students to allow them grow into quality community members. The lines represent that the journey continues after Primary School.
