Business & Computer Pathways Gr 9– Information Technology (TIJ 1O1) Gr 10- Information Technology (BTT 2O1), Intro to Business (BBI 2O1) and Computer Science (ISC 2O1) familiarizes students with all the senior level courses. Gr 11– Accounting, Entrepreneurship, Law, Marketing, Information Technology, Economics, Computer Science Gr 12–Business Leadership, Economics, International Business, Accounting, Law, Entrepreneurship, Computer Science

  5. Specialist High Skills Major 5 Components Bundle of Credits (8-10 credits) Certifications and Training Programs SHSM Experiential Learning & Career Exploration Essential Skills via a 2 credit Co-op “Reach Ahead” Experiences

  6. Bundle of Credits Co-op is also required. Co-op may be taken in during the semester or in the summer of grade 10 or 11

CLA’s Contextualized Learning Activities (CLAs) in Math and English: • Enable students to connect course learning to their SHSM sector • CLAs are based on curriculum expectations from required courses • One or more CLAs totaling a minimum of six hours must be incorporated into each required English and Math course

  8. A.I.M.E. High Certifications/Training Grade 11 and 12 SHSM Students: • Service Excellence Certification • General WHMIS Certification • Standard CPR / First Aid / AED Certification • Business Leadership Training • Counterfeit Detection Certification • Myers-Briggs Personality Inventory Training • DECA & Ivey School of Business Competitions • Summer Company (start your own business)

  9. Cooperative Education Each SHSM pathway requires that students complete a minimum of two credits in cooperative education, linked to business.

Opportunities for students to experience their selected post secondary pathway may include: Attending lectures at Rotman School of Management or Ivey School of Business Attending a campus tours Participating in conferences, events and competitions (DECA) Receiving a dual credit Learning through relevant guest speakers Reach Ahead Opportunities

  13. Dual Credits • Marketing students have the opportunity to earn a High School Credit and a Post Secondary College Credit at the same time. They will receive a transcript. • The course is taught by a Fleming College faculty member twice a week. The Sinclair business teacher teaches the remaining three days. • The class also visits Fleming College to experience a day of campus life.

Why are SHSMs so Successful at Sinclair? • Students are exposed to all Sinclair SHSMs in grade 9 and 10 • Students are identified and can apply as early as grade 9 • Variety of Business options to engage students • Most High School Pathways are created with a Business Teacher or Guidance SHSM specialist • The BOH 4M2 course delivers all the certifications and CLAs • Super collaboration of Co-op, Guidance and Business Department staff

  16. What is DECA? • A business club that meets weekly • Students explore applications of real-life business situations through case studies • Enhances communication, teamwork and presentation skills

  17. Competitions 600 STUDENTS WILL ATTEND THE REGIONAL COMPETITION AT SINCLAIR IN NOVEMBER 5000 STUDENTS WILL ATTEND THE PROVINCIALS IN TORONTO THIS FEBRUARY!
