  4. President: Nickelle Smith • Major: Telecommunications • Year: Junior • Head of the Telecommunications Committee. • Future Aspirations: To become a television news reporter or anchor. She also plans to start a nonprofit for young girls.

  5. Vice President: Vonecia Carswell • Major: Journalism • Year: Senior • Co-head of the PR/Advertising Committee • Future Aspirations: To become a multimedia editor.

  6. Treasurer: Shaneece Dixon • Major: Journalism • Year: Senior • Head of the Journalism Committee • Future Aspirations: To write local nonprofit news.

  7. Secretary: Meghan Pryce • Major: Journalism • Year: Sophomore • Future Aspirations: To write for a women’s magazine.

  8. Historian: Tatila Brock • Major: Journalism • Year: Junior • Co-head of the PR/Advertising Committee • Future Aspiration: To work for a nonprofit organization or seventeen magazine.

  9. Mr. Charles Harris - Meet and Greet Thursday Jan. 24. Current balance: $908.99 New member dues: $15 Benefits of being a paying member: contributing content to Zion and Zion Buzz, adding the organization to your resume, receiving sponsorship for the convention, purchasing a t-shirt and running for an E-Board position at the end of the year.   11. FUNDRAISING To raise money for the organization UF NABJ works the concession stands for football games and basketball games. It’s a lot of FUN and great bonding time. This semester UF NABJ will be working concession at basketball games.

  12. UF NABJ will not be partnering with HCA this semester, so we will need a lot of volunteers. Volunteers can also work in shifts.   13. A Plus • UF NABJ volunteers with the A Plus Program at Williston High School. It is a free college and career readiness program for students in grades 8 through 12. • In the past we have done seminars about professionalism, networking, and tips for starting college ranging from dorm life to college prep. • This semester we plan on continuing to volunteer with A Plus. Information about dates will be announced soon.

  14. Members are responsible for having their point sheet with them so an e-board member can sign off on it! The point sheet will be handed out at the next meeting. 15 Points: National Member, Zion Article/Zion Buzz, Concessions, A Plus and Committee Involvement 10 Points: Attending GBM’s, Creating Flyers, Tabling, Attending Events 5 Points: Help Plan Events, Publicity via Social Media, Miscellaneous Point System

  15. UPCOMING EVENTS • General Body Meetings for the rest of the semester: Jan. 30, Feb. 13, Feb. 27, March 13, March 27 and April 11. • UF NABJ will be tabling at the Meet and Greet on Thursday Jan. 24 from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the former library in Weimer Hall. • UF NABJ is co-sponsoring with the J-School student organizations for an Interviewing Day Prep Session on Tuesday, February 19. Time and location TBA • UF NABJ SPRING WEEK will be February 20 - 22.

  16. Networking Event • UF NABJ is traveling to Orlando to meet with the Central Florida Association of Black Journalists (CFABJ) on Saturday Feb. 9 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. • Unfortunately, there is limited space. Only two spots are left! • Every member who attends must be a paying member and have an UF NABJ shirt. • This event is worth 15 points! **There is a penalty for canceling last minute.** • The deadline to sign up is by the next general body meeting on Jan. 30.

  17. Don’t have plans during the Super Bowl? Don’t want to watch it alone? If so, then come out to UF NABJ Super Bowl Potluck Social. This will also be a potluck, so be sure to sign up on the link below. Enjoy some yummy food, good company and a great game!
