City & Guilds Functional Skills • externally marked assessments for Level 1 and 2 Reading, Writing, Mathematics and ICT • internally marked assessments for Entry Level and Speaking, Listening and Communication at all levels • Monthly paper-based test series for English, Mathematics and ICT at L1 and L2 • on demand, on screen assessments (in addition to paper based) at Levels 1 and 2 – English • ICT and Mathematics on screen to follow

City & Guilds Functional Skills Registration and results Entry Level assessments – paper-based, on demand • learners are registered (before they sit the assessment), through the Walled Garden • nominated centre contact appointed • passwords for accessing live assessment papers on Walled Garden • papers and assessment packs downloaded in readiness for assessment – stored securely until assessment • assessments internally marked, internally verified, externally verified • centre may receive direct claims status after positive EV visit Same process for Speaking, Listening and Communication levels 1 & 2

City & Guilds Functional Skills Registration, entry and results Level 1 and 2 fixed date, paper-based assessments • candidates registered through Walled Garden • candidates entered for assessments through Walled Garden • assessment packs and papers dispatched to centre • assessments taken within allocated window • Monthly paper-based assessment windows for English, Mathematics and ICT at L1 and L2 • scripts sent for external marking • results on Walled Garden within 32 working days • certificates to centres within 42 working days

City & Guilds Functional Skills Registration and results English levels 1 and 2 on screen (reading and writing) • candidates registered through Walled Garden – same day registration • assessment scheduled through Walled Garden • results to be on Walled Garden – 20 working days ICT and mathematics levels 1 and 2 on screen • in development

Functional Skills - approvals • all active Key Skills (3638) and pilot Functional Skills (3648) centres have automatic approval for 3748 • all Adult Numeracy/Literacy (3792), ESOL Skills for Life (3692) and ICT Skills for Life (3804) centres able to complete a fast track form • other centres will need to complete a qualification approval (QAP) form • 3748 has 3 complexes each complex is for 1 subject, but all levels for the subject

  8. Functional English • consists of 3 parts • Reading • Writing • Speaking, listening and communication • each part is assessed separately • learners must complete all parts • certificate awarded at lowest level of achievement • dictionaries are allowed at all levels

  9. Functional Maths • single assessment for each level • entry level may be split over more than 1 session • dictionaries and calculators are allowed at all levels • thematic tasks that require the candidate to determine which maths skills they need to use

Functional ICT • single assessment for each level • entry levels 1 & 2 may be split over more than 1 session • all assessments require access to ICT equipment • dictionaries allowed at all levels • thematic tasks that require the candidate to determine which ICT skills/software they need to use
