  3. 1. Living Peacefully • Jesus’ Teaching in context: (The Sermon on the Mount, ch 5-7) • The Beatitudes: Rejoice! God is acting to Rescue His world. • Salt & Light: You (Jesus’ followers) are key in the plan. • Fulfilling the Law: More righteous than the Pharisees • “Faith Acts” Right and wrong practices / attitudes “Do not . . . , but . . . “ • Giving, • Prayer • Fasting • Wealth Build your treasure in heaven, God will provide for you on earth. • Others • Be wise in who you listen to: Build on the rock of [Jesus’] teaching

Living Peacefully . . . • The structure (Money/Wealth & Others): • Instruction: Treasure 6:19-21 t 7:1-2 Judging • Parable 1: Evil Eye 6:22-23 t 7:3-5 Plank in Eye • Parable 2: 2 Masters 6:24 t 7:6 Pearls to Pigs • Encouragement: Provision 6:25-33 t 7:7-11 Provision • Conclusion: Don’t worry 6:34 t 7:12 Golden rule • Clarifying – The Good & Bad [stingy] eye • Presumes the eyes send out rays of light (e.g. Ps 38:10, Prov 15:30) • These rays affected the objects they “touched” • Based on moral character – esp. generosity/stinginess (Prov 22:9)

  5. 2. God’s Provision • Do not worry (v 25, 34) • Lessons from life: • The Birds – God feeds them (v 26) • The Lilies – God clothes them (v 28-29) • God will provide for you too (v 31-33)

  6. 3. Seek first His Kingdom Is Jesus your Insurance Policy or LORD of your Chequing Account ? • You cannot serve two masters

Opportunity • A Passion for ministry where we are – daily focus • A housing project in Brazil – Marcos & Nane Barozzo • God’s work here – • 3% of Vancouverites are in Church on any given Sunday • If you meet 30 people in a day – you’re probably the only Christian • Children’s choir, CE, U-Hill High, . . . • Olympics 2010 (10 months away) • Hospitality, Serving & Special Events . . . • One option: Start our “facilities” fund.
