  2. Email, Chat Rooms, & IM • What do you do if someone sends you an email, an IM (instant message) or says something in a chat room that makes you feel uncomfortable?

  3. Language • What should you do if someone uses inappropriate language in a chat room, an email, or an IM?

  4. Feelings • What should you do if someone writes something that is meant to hurt someone else’s feelings?

  5. Web’s Golden Rule Golden Rule • Remember the web’s golden rule: “Remember, there is a person there.” • Emails, comments in chat rooms, and instant messages are read by real people with real feelings.

  6. Security Is Important, So You May Want To Follow These Directions …

  7. Passwords • Should you tell your password to anyone? • Why or why not?

  8. Strangers What should you do if a stranger asks you questions?

  9. Meeting • What if a stranger asks to meet you in person? What should you do?

  10. There are many rules of netiquette, but some happen to be laws too. Take a look: • No spamming • No spoofing • No phishing • No flaming

  13. SPOOFING • Definition: A technique used to gain unauthorized access to computers, whereby the intruder sends messages to a computer with an IP address indicating that the message is coming from a trusted host. • - Webopedia

  14. PHISHING • Definition: The act of sending an email to a user falsely claiming to be an established legitimate enterprise in an attempt to scam the user into surrendering private information that will be used for identity theft. • Webopedia

  15. FLAMING • Definition: posting messages that are deliberately hostile and insulting, usually in the social context of a discussion board. • -Answers.com
