  2. Name and Location The name of the structure I chose for this project is the Empire State Building. The Empire State Building is located on 350 Fifth Avenue Manhattan, New York. Coordinates are: 40°44′54.36″N 73°59′08.36″W.

  3. Function There are three main functions of the Empire State Building. One function is an observation deck. They made this building an observation deck so tourists and New Yorkers can overlook the amazing skyline of New York City It also functions as a broadcast station. New York is a media center, so it requires a tremendous amount of broadcast capability in order to transmit all of the radio and T.V. channels to viewers and listeners around the world. The Empire State Building transmits more than 16 T.V. channels and more than 20 FM radio stations. Its final function is that it serves as an office building and houses 1000 companies and is so densely occupied that it even has its own zip code.

  4. Form The Empire State Building is a combination structure. It is a combination of a shell and a solid structure because there are both hollow and solid parts in the building. It has flood lights which mainly illuminate the top of the building and make it the aesthetic highlight of the New York skyline. The building itself is a dead load and all of the people who are in it are the live load. This building’s design prevents it from being destroyed by dynamic loads such as strong winds and earthquakes. The Empire State Building has 102 floors and is 381 meters off the ground. The structure is designed to achieve its functions. It has a balcony and many windows because it’s an observation deck, located in the heart of New York city, and serves as one of the most important landmarks in the United States. It`s also among the tallest structures in the United States, a massive monument, able to carry an extraordinary amount of satellites, which enables it to serve as a major broadcasting station for the world.
