  1. Energizing Youth An approach to Student Interest Strategies 2013 Ten State Conference Presented by Suzanne Gehl MD and David Deci MD

  2. Student Interest Strategies Began at WAFP Strategic Planning • Addressing Future Workforce became a high priority WAFP-Foundation committed to financially support workforce development

  3. Student Interest Strategies For the first year of this initiative, the Foundation raised $15,000. 30 students from WI’s two med schools were able to attend the National Conference (NCFMRMS)

  4. Student Interest Strategies Schools recruited students from FMIG’s and coordinated travel

  5. Student Interest Strategies Pre-Conference Activities • Email correspondence to students • Webinar • Ashley Bentley from AAFP did a presentation about how to get the most out of NCFMRMS • Alan Schwartzstein spoke about resolution writing • Larry Pheifer & Becky Wimmer discussed how to connect at NCFMRMS and about WAFP’s strategic focus, including how to get involved

  6. Student Interest Strategies Activities in KC • Reception was held for students and included WI residency programs • Students gave testimonials and thanked donors on camera • They also wrote thank you notes for donors

  7. Student Interest Strategies Video compilations were posted on both WAFP and WAFP-F’s websites http://bit.ly/11sPTY5

  8. Student Interest Strategies The handwritten notes with a group photo was sent to all donors

  9. Student Interest Strategies Post-Conference follow up • A survey was distributed and completed by students • WAFP will track • The impact of the conference over time • The number of students who select FM

  10. Student Interest Strategies We’re doing this again! • Donations are being solicited • We’re discussing ways to expand the program with students and members of our student & resident committee

  11. Student Interest Strategies Other strategies: • More presence at FMIG meetings and events • Mentor database • Day at the Capitol event • Others
