  2. Our Founder Gakken was established in 1946 by the late Hideto Furuoka At the age of 5, Mr Hideto lost his father in a coal mining accident. His mother raised him and his siblings in extreme poverty. Her selfless love and family devotion inspired Mr Hideto with a sincere gratitude and appreciation to society. He passed away in May,1994. But his aspirations, passion and spirit for education continued to be felt among all sections of Gakken.

The original idea when Gakken created New Block 56 years ago came from laid bricks. • Scientifically proven, this shape is the easiest for a child to handle and to build his/her creation. • Simple actions such as putting a block into or between other blocks stabilizes block-creation and is made easy for child to make their own 3-D creations.

  9. Key Characteristics of Gakken New Block • Gakken New Blocks are soft enough so that child would not injure other child or him/herself; • They are big enough for a younger child to handle with ease and to be child-safe against swallowing; • They have no burr or sharp edges; (3) (1) (2)

Quality and Safety Assurance of Gakken New Blocks: • Parts material: PE and ABS. • No PVC or Phthalate plasticizer is used in a block or even in a carrying bag. • Blow Molding is used. • That is why all parts in GNB are soft enough so that a small child won’t get hurt when he/she is trying to chew them, but are tough enough to support the weight of child’s creation • (3) Testing of the parts, plastic casing, instruction books and ink/pigments. • GNB has cleared and passed the toughest safety tests required by Japanese laws • -- ST, the Safety Test required by Safety Toy Association of Japan. • -- Food Sanitation Test required by the ministry of Heath in Japan.

  12. How does Gakken New Block compare to other regular blocks? He can imagine the dinosaur when he is playing with GNB. Other Regular Blocks: Child can only stack the blocks vertically upward to make his works. There are restrictions on a child’s creativity. • Gakken New Block: • Child can create horizontally, vertically and diagonally by stacking, laying, plugging a block into, tucking a block between, etc. • This will develop his/her • creativity, imagination; • touch & feel; • eye-hand coordination; and • spacial recognition in three dimensional field.
