Definitions • Reparations = paying someone back for harm done to them • Ex: The United States paid reparationsto Japanese-Americans who were put in concentration camps during WWII • Negotiation = coming to a decision through discussion • Consensus = coming to a solution that everyone can live with

  3. Our Task • Assign reparations for Argentina’s Dirty War • Represent one of the guilty parties in a negotiation • Come to a consensus about the division of reparations

  4. The Guilty Parties • Videla and the military junta • The individual soldiers/torturers • The United States Government • The United States Military • Juan Peron • Isabel Peron • The Catholic Church • Argentine citizens

  5. Your Tasks • Individually, fill out your Reparations Log • Compare with your group • What do you agree on? • What do you disagree on? • You will receive your representation assignment. • Knowing who you represent, how will you assign reparations? Why? • Fill you your group log

  6. Group Reflection (write on the BACK of your GROUP LOG) As a group, answer on the back of your log: • What is hard about defending the person you represent? Why? • What might be easy about defending the person you represent? Why? • Your goal is to make yourself as innocent as possible. Who are you going to blame in order to take the blame off yourself? • Who is going to be easy to work with? • Who is going to be difficult to work with?
