  1. The Police Station Lauren Cordier 5 May 2014 TTE 309

  2. Purpose • I chose this topic for the play center because my case study child wants to be a police officer when he is older. • I have also noticed that he likes to play fairly and make sure other kids follow the rules while playing which relates to the job of police officers. • There is also a big interest with jobs such as police officers, firefighters, and EMTs in our classroom.

  3. Physical Environment • I removed most of the items from our dramatic play area to create the police station. • I added handcuffs, police badges, police hats, magnifying glasses, maps, telephones, a computer keyboard, and fictional books about police officers.

  4. Physical Environment

  5. Literacy and Cultural Additions Notebooks to write tickets with, a wanted sign my mentor teach made, and images of police officers and police stations from Tucson and West Africa.

  6. Observations – Case Study Child Arresting someone. Making a “Call 911” sign Working on the “computer” Showing off his police badge. Collecting bail money from someone in jail.

  7. Observations – Rest of Class Working on the computer and answering phones. Making a missing car sign. Watching someone get arrested and wearing police hat and holding handcuffs.

  8. Sign for lost truck with a picture of the suspect. Literacy Examples from Kids “No touching the door” note. My case study child’s note that says “Nobody has emergencies.”

  9. Results • OverallI was really pleased with how my center went. • My case study child played in the center every day for a week which was really exciting! • The other kids in my class were also really eager to play in it. • It was really interesting to see how much the kids knew about police officers!
