  2. Did you know? • If we put all of the solid waste collected in the U.S. in a line of average garbage trucks, that line of trucks could cross the country, extending from New York City to Los Angeles, more than 100 times

  3. Did you know? • The average American discards seven and a half pounds of garbage every day

  4. Did you know? • There are 1,794 landfills in the United States, down from 20,000 in the early 1970s. The EPA estimates that they will be full in 20 years.

  5. BCS Trash • Every day at BCS we generate 18 cans of trash at lunch. If we took all the trash cans we filled during one school year and stacked them on top of each other they would be five times higher than the Empire State Building!!

  6. What Can We Do? • One of our three E’s is the environment. We would really like to help our environment by reducing the amount of trash we make here at BCS. That is why we would like you to help out on Trash Free Fridays. • We are asking that you pack a lunch using tupperware and re-usable water bottles . If you buy lunch take only what you know you will eat and on Fridays buy a lunch in a basket instead of a styrofoam container.

  7. Are you E-smarter than a 5th Grader? • The Joberts 5th graders would like to challenge you all to see if you can generate the least amount of waste during trash free Fridays. • After each lunch session we will count up the total amount of trash and keep a record of the results.Who is E-smarter? • The 3 /4Team? • The 5/6 Team? • The 7 /8 team? • Let your lunch do the talking on Trash Free Fridays!!

  8. Added Bonus • If we can reduce the amount of trash we make during lunch we might be in with a chance of winning the Siemens we Can Change the World Challenge. • The winning school receives $5000!!Think what fun we could have with that!!
