  2. HB 1220: 120 Credit Justification • Indiana Commission for Higher Education may approve or disapprove the offering of any proposed or existing associate, baccalaureate, or graduate degree; or program leading to a certificate or other indication of accomplishment.

  3. HB 1220: 120 Credit Justification • If a degree program requires more than 120 credit hours for a baccalaureate degree, the institution must provide justification for the additional credit hours. • If the additional credit hours are required by external accreditation, occupational certification, or licensure, the commission shall accept the justification

  4. HB 1220: 120 Credit Justification • If the additional credit hours are related to employer requirements or enhanced program quality or content, the commission may accept the justification

  5. Purdue approaches for implementing HB1220 • PNC senate met and voted (91% for and 9 % against by secret ballot) last Friday to reduce almost all degree programs without external accreditation, occupational certification, or licensure to 120 credit hours. • Other campuses have not.

  6. Implementing Process of Existing Programs by Aug. 1, 2012 • A) An inventory of undergraduate degree programs currently over 120 credit hours (all Calumet programs) • b) A justification for programs that it feels should exceed the 120 semester credit hour limit • c) A description of the process and timetable for changing the curricula for any programs it feels can be limited to 120 hours for programs beginning in the Fall of 2013

Implementing Process of Existing Programs by Aug. 1, 2012 • d) Identification of any problems or issues that need to be addressed as part of the implementation process; and • e) If applicable, a submission of program(s) that the institution may determine by August 1, 2012 should be limited to 120 or 60 credit hours for programs beginning in the Fall of 2013.

  8. SEA 182: Statewide Transfer General Education Core • By December 1, 2012, we must have identified and reported to the Commission for Higher Education, a statewide transfer general education core. This statewide general education core will go into effect starting May 15, 2013

  9. SEA 182: Statewide Transfer General Education Core • The core must be based on core competencies, translated into at least 30 semester credit hours, which apply for credit toward undergraduate degrees, including associate and baccalaureate degrees

SEA 182 Implementation Leadership Team met on April 4, 2012 • Representing 15 Indiana universities (campuses) and colleges • Identified 7 broad competencies allinstitutions support (need to be confirmed by faculty) • Identified 3 competencies half of institutions support (Do we agree with any of those 3?)

  13. Future work • May 18th, 2012. First faculty working group meeting to discuss the competency of written communication. • Need to identify one faculty member and forward our written communication outcomes to ICHE.
