The mass production and the lowering of prices • -on consumer goods meant that more items were available to more people than ever before along with new transportation makes it easier. • Advertising a product changed, from announcing the existence of a produce, to persuading the public they truly needed and deserved to own it for themselves. • Advertising helped build new companies and marketing chains.   3. How Advertising was Introduced • Radio advertising • Billboard advertising • Catalogue • Companies sponsor celebrities • Everyday people promoting products in the streets. (Travel)

  4. Traveling Salesmen • Selling or promoting commercial products • Essential component of modern strategy

  5. Radio advertising • New radio stations opened almost every week • Averts and songs in radio programs were widely used to praise products • The government made no attempt to regulate radio advertising • The public was bombarded with information encouraging them to buy new consumer goods.

  6. Catalogues/mail order • The buying of goods or services by mail delivery: “home-shopping” • A publication containing a list of general merchandise from a company 1925 catalogue featuring the latest men's suits.

  7. Hire Purchase • Contract that allows the buyer to hire the goods for a monthly rent • Customers who could not afford the original price can now pay off by months • Pay a certain % of the price of the item but with interest • Easy to get and people got intodebt

Effects of Advertisement • Great economic boom of 1920 was helped by the considerable extent by advertising. • American public bombarded with information encouraging them to buy • Made life easier and provided more entertainment • Labour saving products allow them to take up new forms of entertainment, so entertainment industry grows. • Famous people start sponsoring products. • Public remembers the slogan's of companies • Woman have more free time and freedom
