  2. Introduction • Great conflict • At war with Satan (Ephesians 6:11-13) • Flesh versus spirit (Galatians 5:17) • Man’s enemy from the beginning • Fall (Genesis 3:1-7) • Deceive nations (Revelation 12:9)

  3. Introduction • Not defenseless • Helps in time of temptation (1 Corinthians 10:13) • His tactics are known (2 Corinthians 2:11)

  4. Devices • “Wiles” of the Devil • Evil methods (Ephesians 4:14; 6:11) • Understand his ways to survive • Accused God to man (Genesis 3:2, 3, 14) • Accused man to God (Job 1:6-11; 2:1-5; Revelation 12:9, 10) • Accused both God and man to Jesus (Matthew 4:1-11)

  5. Devices • Snare in order to trap us • Skillful (1 Timothy 3:7) • Holds us up as a hypocrite • Become captive (2 Timothy 2:26) • Seduced by him to do evil (1 Timothy 6:9)

  6. Devices • Must not be ignorant • We know his plans • We know he is cunning • Blinds us to the truth (2 Corinthians 4:4; 2 Thessalonians 2:10-12) • Leads our minds astray (2 Corinthians 11:3; Galatians 1:6-9)

  7. Tactics • Appeal through the flesh • Knows the desires we have (1 John 2:15-17) • “Do your own thing” • Unlawful satisfaction brings slavery (2 Peter 2:19)

  8. Tactics • Appeal through what we see • “Lust of the eyes” (1 John 2:16) • Satan gets us to have roving eyes (Genesis 6:5; Job 31:1) • Leads into areas unpleasing to God

  9. Tactics • Appeal through pride • Vainglory of life (2 Timothy 2:16) • Believes he doesn’t need God (Romans 1:18-23; James 4:6-12) • Tries to justify his actions (Isaiah 5:20; 55:8, 9)

  10. Tactics • Temptation of Eve (Genesis 3:1-7) • Good to eat (Lust of the flesh) • Delight to the eyes (Lust of the eyes) • Make one wise like God (Pride of life)

  11. Tactics • Temptation of Jesus (Luke 4:1-12) • Stones to bread (Lust of the flesh) • View of the world (Lust of the eyes) • Cast Himself down (Pride of life)

  12. Tactics • Offering Jesus a shortcut • Avoid the suffering (Matthew 16:21) • Gain the benefits (Hebrews 2:10-13; 4:15)

  13. Living For Satan • Happens when we practice sin • Cannot please God (1 John 3:8-10) • Must practice righteousness • Jesus words to the Jews (John 8:44)

  14. Living For Satan • Become enemies of righteousness • God’s enemy (James 4:4) • Without hope of salvation (Ephesians 2:2)

  15. Living For Satan • Our choice is obvious • Peter’s temptation (Matthew 26:69-75; Luke 22:31) • Things we do and say, places we go, how we dress, all say something about us (Colossians 3:1, 2)

  16. Conclusion • In the world, but not of the world • Look at things not seen
