  2. Adiabatic Winds Adiabatic winds occur where an air mass is pushed up and over a mountain range. On the downslope of the mountains the air dries out and heats up. This creates a rainshadow in the lee of the mountain range

  3. Chinook winds In Canada, southern Alberta experiences adiabatic winds when air masses from the Pacific Ocean are pushed up and over the Western Cordillera. These winds, which form in the rainshadow of the Rockies, are known locally as Chinook Winds.
