  1. GED to College Transitions The Key: Getting GED students, when they first walk through our doors, to realize they have potential and long-term goals to develop and achieve beyond the GED.

  2. The Marketing Entrance Materials are put on display where students enter the building of local colleges: SMCC, University College Bath/Brunswick, SNHU Brunswick campus, etc. Other items: our own College Transitions and Career Pathways materials, FAME, WWC, our current adult ed. catalog, etc.

  3. The Required Career Assessment Always, always, always ask GED students what their long-term goals are and write it down on their intakes Have students do a short career assessment that challenges them to think beyond their GED Emphasize the free College Transitions Program and the money it will save them on developmental college courses

  4. The Marketing Classroom Materials are put on display in the GED classroom to catch the eyes of the students GED teachers are also College Transitions teachers. They can remind students about the bigger picture.

  5. The Marketing Academic Counselor Office These materials are wisely chosen (limited space) Voc Rehab Parents as Scholars Open houses at colleges Upcoming Women, Work & Community workshops Onward Program (University of Maine)

  6. Don’t Let Them Leave! After students finish their last GED test, they are given an Exit Form inviting them to continue their educational and career exploration beyond their GED. Use the margins to write down the student’s next step, even if they don’t check anything off. Remind them once again of all that your program offers through College Transitions and Career Pathways courses.

  7. Bring Outside Organizations In Maine Educational Opportunity Center College representatives Women, Work & Community Voc Rehab

  8. Side Note on Diploma Students For High School Diploma students, use College Transitions courses as a way to earn high school credit. This exposes them to the College Transitions environment and puts passing Accuplacer scores in their hands upon completion of their High School Diploma.

  9. Incentives In College Transitions • Free Accuplacer testing • Free Accuplacer prep courses • Free science courses • Free computer courses • A $500 scholarship opportunity • Help with college applications and the financial aid process • Dual advising with the colleges
