End-user computing(EUC) means creating a common platform for any non-programmers to work with the computer system. • It provides an environment where non-programmers can create a working application. • VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure), the technology related to EUC, holds desktop environments on a central server. • End-user computing is a group of approaches that aims at consolidating end-users with the computing environment. • Moreover, these approaches attempt to realize the potential for high-end computing and use it to perform problem- solving in a more dependable manner. • Examples of EUC are: • SQL or MAPPER, which are fourth-generation programming languages • Fifth-generation programming language systems like ICAD.

A User-Oriented approach to EUC • A user-oriented view focuses on providing solutions to the problems caused by an IT-oriented view of EUC. • Users uphold all the control and End-user computingproblems are treated as organizational problems. • End-users are likely to develop computer systems for solving problems of instant scrutinize to them. • In user-oriented End-user computing, quality contemplation has its complete focus only on the quality of the solution • and its resulting benefits. • The quality of the tool put together to achieve a particular solution is of no use to end-users of the EUC. • An IT-oriented mainly focus on the following things: • Documentation • Code quality • Backup and recovery that misses the point of the end-user system.

  4. End-user, that is, computer experience and training are the key issues to an effective EUC. • End-user computingculture is encouraged by end-users. Huge controversy exists between the nature of training and • the importance of training and experience. • This topic is open to debate. Some authors support tools used in training while some support the IT-oriented view • which completely focuses on the training involving technology and its standards. • User-centric EUC should only focus on three things: • Identifying the problems • Finding their solutions, and • Focusing on evaluating potential IT tools.

The user controls end-user computing. • There should be an improvement in some limitations on the IT industry. • They should be limited to only providing the advice and perhaps through the mechanism of information centres only on a request. • Huge displeasure is created by IT when it tries to control EUC and enforce an IT-oriented approach. • Further, it is suggested that line management should be controlled by EUC and not by IS personnel. • The involvement of IT in End-user computingcan be made by hand-over the control of IT staff to users. • EUC is an organizational issue and not an IT issue because it was discovered that End-user computers control • Many complications can arise in removing the control of EUC from IT. • These complications include: • Data duplication • Lack of data integrity • Data redundancy

Conclusion: • Overall we can conclude that a user-oriented view of End-user computing focuses on the problems that are to be solved, the task of the user, and the organizational environment. • A good result from EUC is defined only when the quality of the solution provided by the end-user contributes to the successful business goals.
