What does Curtis believe? • How would Ron explain the events…some creativity here 

  6. Workshop-Flashback A flashback occurs when a character, through some event in the story goes back to an earlier time and relives previous events. Writers use flashback to take the reader back to an event that happened earlier in time than the present text. It is an effective technique for quickly and concisely revealing information that is important to the understanding of the character or plot. Flashback Foreshadowing

  7. Continue… A flashback might be written in a different style of type or it might use a different verb tense. A sensory image may connect the flashback to the events of the story.

  8. Listen to this example:

  9. Flashback… How does the writing style change in the flashback? Why do you think the writer chooses to use the technique of flashback?

  10. Group Work- Example Read the following passage. Identify each occurrence of flashback. Last night our family decided to attend an outdoor classical music concert. It was not an easy decision….our previous outdoor adventures had always led to embarrassing moments. When we went fishing, Celeste spilled out live bait on a family’s picnic table. When we went camping, Ahmed hit a softball into a car window. At the zoo, Talia got caught feeding the zebra. We prepared for this newadventure…..Then in the middle of the concert, it happened!
