  2. How is the product made ? To produce a prosthesis, there are 6 steps : • Design • Moulding • Polishing • Packaging • Supply Chain • Sterilization • Surgery

  3. STEP 1 : DESIGN Everybody works together to design the next products and it is very important. The prosthesis has to preserve all natural movements ! • In the Irish factory, the are 80 engineers among the 500 employees. • The factory works 24 hours a day.

  4. Titanium Cobalt – Chrome STEP 2 : MOULDING First, The prosthesis is molded in order to give it the initial shape. • 70% of prosthesis are made of Cobalt-Crome • Titanium is stronger but it is more expensive

  5. STEP 3 : POLISHING Polishing is very important because it avoids wearing . • Each prosthesis is polished twice. ( Robot + Worker) • Workers wear protection glasses. Moreover, they must not stay polishing for a long time (to avoid breathing diseases)

  6. STEP 4 : PACKAGING • The factory cares about quality. That’s why they perform a battery of tests. • All the goods are packed in a warehouse. • ->They are ready to be distributed.

  8. STEP 6 : STERILIZATION In Leeds, the products are sterilized in order to avoid any risk of diseases. Box 1 Box 2 The Box 2 has been exposed to UV radation. The orange sticker has turned into Purple so We know that the box is sterilized.

  9. STEP 7 : SURGERY doesn’t deal with the surgery : it only sells its prosthesis to the surgeon. • A prosthesis costs 5000-6000€ also supplies all the tools needed to implant the prosthesis for nothing.

  10. CONCLUSION • Turnover : 26 billion euros • Market leader for knee prosthesis • 360,000 units produced each year • High level of technology is a company which is always moving forward and interested in innovation. But thereisstill a strongcompetitionbetweenDepuy and the othercompanies.
