ICE BREAKER: “Create Community& Make Connections…” Activity Name: “MEET FOUR”: Lead Facilitator: Professor Dey • Directions: • Turn to the Activity entitled, “Meet Four”, • Stand up and go meet FOUR individuals in the next few minutes, • Introduce yourself then…: • Interview each other by filling in the answers to the four questions as listed in each quadrant on the activity sheet. *The four questions are also listed below: Question One: List THREE POSITIVE Characteristics of the 21st century students…?Question Two: What does or would success look like for the POSITIVE 21st century students…?Question Three: What does or would a POSITIVE learning environment look like in the 21st century classroom…?Question Four: Why is it important and /or beneficial for the 21st century faculty member to create a POSITIVE learning environment for the 21st century students?

ICE BREAKER: “Compose/Create Classroom Culture” • Activity Name: “Responsibility” • Lead Facilitator: Professor Dey • Directions: • After watching the Xtranormal video, entitled, “I am Worried about my Grade” • Turn to your neighbor and talk about what was wrong with the Student’s attitude in the Xtranormal video. • List two RESPONSIBLE actions which the student might consider doing in his future college classes to be successful… • Why is it important to compose/create classroom culture at the beginning of the semester? • http://youtu.be/WVvKnq5XT-g

  8. Blooms Taxonomy Lower Order Thinking Skills Also Known As (AKA) L.O.T.S. Remember/Knowledge Understanding/Comprehension Applying/Application Higher Order Thinking Skills AKA H.O.T.S. Analyzing/Analysis Evaluating/Evaluation Creating/Synthesis

  9. Creating is using the very highest level of thinking skills, according to Bloom, to take various parts and put them together to make something new. What is Creating?

  10. What is Connecting? Connecting has several meanings as they are used in the 21st Century Learning Environment: First, connections that the student makes with the content material that is presented in the class. Second, connections that students make with each other in the class. Third, connections that the student makes with one’s self.
