  2. A bit of history … • Need to put maintenance, support and development of Shibboleth on a sustainable basis • Internet2, JISC and SWITCH decide to initiate Shibboleth Consortium • Charter signed in April 2013 • Broadening the membership base is key for success

  3. Vision of the Consortium • To deliver, enhance and support the open-source product of choice for organizations wishing to deploy federated identity • For Shibboleth to be recognized for its quality of software offering and its engagement with the user, standards and development community

  4. Consortium • Has been established to provide a structure, whereby the community can support the direction and development of the Shibboleth project through financial contributions •  provides the means for sustainability for Shibboleth

Benefits for joining • Only way to guarantee keeping access to Shibboleth open-source and free • Allows proper staffing for • Continued development of Shibboleth code base • Timely response on Shibboleth mailing lists • As member, be able • To elect representative(s) to the Board • To be involved in the continued development of Shibboleth • As principle, be able • To contribute directly to the work of the Board • To nominate Board member

  7. Membership Types • Goal: Accommodate organizations of different types in order to allow a broad membership • Different membership types available for • Size of the organization: small – medium – large • Commercial – academic organizations • Individual organization – Federation
