If you have a concrete floor that is slick and has the potential for causing a slip and fall accident, I am sure you have noticed there are many options when it comes to giving better traction to the floor. You can install mats or matting, and you can use floor paint with non-slip additives or, another option, is you can apply an epoxy-based floor coating material.

Epoxy is known as a copolymer, which means it is formed by the chemical reaction that occurs when two different chemicals are combined, these two liquids that are mixed, and it is called the resin and the hardener. Chemically, the resin consists of monomers or polymers which are short-chained and which have an epoxide group at either end. This epoxide structure is what bonds with other molecules.

  4. There are several options available, including rubber or plastic mats, stone or laminate tiles, or even steel or aluminum diamond plate decking. For the average homeowner, however, the most economical and functional garage floor coating is an epoxy coating. Epoxy is applied directly to the bare concrete with either a brush or roller, just like you would paint, but make no mistake, epoxy does certainly not paint.

One thing to look for when choosing a garage floor epoxy is that you do not need to "etch" the floor with an acidic product before beginning. Many professional high-end products require this.
