Middle School Task Force • Charge: Develop three possible middle school schedules that reduce expenditures for middle school by $500,000 to $1,000,000 through a more efficient master schedule while seeking to offer students a wider choice of instructional experiences, both academic and exploratory. • Completion Date: February 15, 2012

Possibilities • Six possibilities identified • Current middle school schedule • Traditional junior high school schedule • Enrichment, exploratory, intervention block schedule (EEI) • Zero hour schedule based on EEI schedule • “Value added” schedule • Middle school (6th)/JHS schedule (7th & 8th)

  8. JHS Schedule • Students have six instructional periods • Intervention & Enrichment Opportunities • Common plans by content rather than interdisciplinary • Some student teaming possible • 60 minute periods • FTE reduced by approximately 12-18

  9. EEI Block Schedule • Eliminates academic lab • Students have six instructional periods • Academic Instructional periods 67 minutes exploratory/enrichment/ Intervention 49 minutes • Team structure remains for students & teachers • FTE reduced by approximately 6

  10. Zero Hour Schedule • Same as EEI schedule • Flex exploratory teacher contracts • Tuition based before and after school classes • Potential revenue generation

Value Added Schedule • Eliminates academic lab • Students have six instructional periods • Instructional periods 60 minutes in length • Team structure remains for LA, SS, & science • Math delivered off team • Exploratories remain • Academic enrichment and intervention classes added • FTE reduced by six to eighteen

  12. Middle School/JHS Schedule • 7– 8th grade • Students have six instructional periods • Intervention & Enrichment Opportunities • Common plans by content rather than interdisciplinary • Some student teaming possible 6th grade • Students have six instructional periods • LA, SS, and Sci would have a common plan time and common group of students. • Math teachers would be off the team and not necessarily have the same plan time as the teams.
