  3. ENTERING PROCEDURES • Pick up your interactive notebook • Quietly go to your assigned seat • Get out your pencil & homework • Begin your Do Now • Fill in your table of contents *You will earn a STAR each week you are present and on-time for every class.

  5. Today’s Objectives • We will… • Review our big goals for the semester • Review and implement class expectations & procedures • Identify and analyze our current knowledge of foundational science information and skills

Reminders • Notebook check tomorrow! • Assignments due Friday: • Supplies • Composition notebook, pencils, loose-leaf paper, glue • Parent Survey • Turn into bin at beginning or end of class • Syllabus contract • You will keep this in the front of your notebook-must get contract stamped to receive credit for this assignment • Student Survey & Life Maps-must be in class bin at start of class today

  7. SLANT • Speaker Expectations: raise your hand, DO NOT CALL OUT, speak loudly and clearly when called on • Listener Expectations: Silently listen when Ms. Goswick or another Student is speaking, hold your questions until speaker is finished presenting

  8. Do Now Discussion Questions Recap BIG GOALS & Malleable Intelligence What is a S.M.A.R.T. goal? Why do we set goals? How will we know when we have reached our goal? How will achieving these goals make you feel? Why is success in this class important for your future?

  9. Review of Class Expectations • List as many specific Positive Student Behaviors/Expectations/Rules as you can! • (5min)

  10. Ticket System • Earn tickets for answering questions, presenting, immediately following directions, on-task • Raffle every Friday • Tickets are drawn from the jar every Friday, and students receive prizes! • Always put your name on the back of your tickets and place them in the jar after dismissal

  11. Incentive System • Earn stars (points) for the following actions: • 1. Perfect weekly attendance = 1 star/wk • 2. Silent & in seat for weekly dismissal = 1 star • 3. Turn in all homework on time = 1 star • 4. 80% or above on test (original/retest) = 1 star • 5. Above & beyond-leadership & scholarship • For every 25stars (points), Ms. Goswick will bring in your own snack/treat/prize

How class points work… • Earn up to 3 points each day • 50 tallies equals a class reward (e.g. music during work time, Ms. Goswick brings in a treat/candy/snack for class) • How to earn class points: • 1. All students are silently working and complete DO NOW at start of class • 2. All students are focused and on-task during presentation of new information & work time • 3. All students are silent and in their seats for dismissal

  14. *Science Brainstorm • In your groups take 5 minutes to brainstorm: • 1. What do you already know about Earth & Environmental Science? • 2. What do you hope to learn in this class? • 3. How do you use science in your life? • After 5 minutes we will rotate papers, and share out another group’s brainstorm

Diagnostic (45min) • You will have 45 minutes to work silently and independently. • This is a grade, so make sure you are putting forth your best effort • This test is to help me know what you already know about foundational science skills and what skills we need to focus more time on. • *Remember MALLEABLE INTELLIGENCE

  16. HOMEWORK • Student survey (past due) • Syllabus contract (parent/guardian signature) • Parent Survey • Supplies (Composition notebook, pencils, loose-leaf paper, glue/tape) • Life map (if not finished in class) • *Notebook check tomorrow!

  17. Exit Ticket (On back of test) • Write a paragraph (5+ complete sentences) explaining your plan (specific actions you will take) for achieving and exceeding our class goals. • Include what science skills do you feel confident with and what skills do you need to learn/review? • If you finish early, quietly pack up and silently wait in your seat for dismissal • After I dismiss you, place your exit ticket in your class bin as you leave
