  1. Macbeth

  2. Look at the following photographs and listen to the music. What are you imagining? How could you use exciting and interesting vocabulary to describe it in words? Think about the themes of ‘Macbeth’ and the impending battle on the heath. How can you express your imagination using imagery – similes, metaphors, personification and description using adjectives and adverbs. Write these down on your mind map!

  3. Description Setting Lightning cracked and flashed as it forked its fingers angrily across the sky. Below, the wild heath flared, like a blazing fire, under the jagged light, then settled back into semi-darkness whilst thunder rumbled and roared like a ravenous beast. From the east, a biting cruel wind bent and pushed wild, desperate trees as it violently howled and moaned across the violet moor. Through the swirling mist, three hunched figures – in their own spellbound thoughts - danced and circled. Why were they on the stormy heath? Macbeth and Banquo, close to a clearing, froze in fear. Rain lashed their faces viciously as they stared out across a desolate moor, awaiting the impending doom.

  4. Now think of the Battle Scene: What can you hear, see, smell, taste and touch? Look at the photographs and listen to the music. What are you imagining? Complete your mind map with words and phrases thinking about imagery – similes, metaphors, personification and description using adjectives and adverbs!
