Skills Needed for Future Success • What is Ramp-Up? • Develop knowledge, skills, and habits for postsecondary success • Pillars: Academic, Admissions, Career, Financial, Personal/Social • Tools: Readiness Rubric & Postsecondary Plan • Why College Readiness? • The earlier the better • Better chance of getting accepted to your colleges of interest • You will have more options after high school • SMART Goals • Specific, Measurable, Achievable • Relevant, Timely

Growth Mindset • Fixed mindset • Believes intelligence & abilities cannot be changed • Growth mindset • Believes abilities and intelligence can change through effort and learning • Constantly puts forth effort: improves their abilities. • Learn from mistakes: can lead to improvement • Persist: Do not give up!

Informed Career Decisions • Personal areas that should align with careers of interest • Interests, Skills, Personality, Values, Learning Style • Categories from the Career Interest Profiler • Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, Conventional • Explore Colleges that align with • Your careers of interest • Add to your “colleges I am thinking about list” in Naviance

Career, Postsecondary & High School Planning • The Readiness Rubric helps you identify and close any readiness gaps you may have • Two levels on the path to college readiness • Developing: Does Not or Partially Meets • Meeting: Meets or Exceeds • The Postsecondary Plan helps you create an academic plan that best fits your career and postsecondary aspirations • Advanced classes will help with your postsecondary readiness

Pair and Share • The Readiness Rubric & Postsecondary Plan will help me reach my short & long-term goals. • I know that setting up Action Plans will help me close any gaps that I may have with my postsecondary readiness. • The PLAN test ‘World of Work Map’ is a great way for me to connect my academic strengths with careers that might interest me.

Budgeting • Reality Check • Learn the costs to live in your city of choice • Provides salary information by education level and career • Two main factors of financial success • Increase income and reduce expenses • Major 10th grade expense categories • Entertainment, Clothes, Savings, etc. • Main key to keeping a good budget • Follow through

Academic Skills for Postsecondary Success • GASP Projects • Requires skills that will help you to be successful with your middle, high school, & college careers. • G – Gather • To collect information • A – Analyze • To study the information closely • S – Synthesize • To combine information from multiple sources • P – Present • To share the information

Pair and Share • My résumé will show potential employers, colleges, or donors a summary of my skills, education, and experiences. • I understand that two keys to my future financial success is creating a budget and following through with it. • GASP projects help me to develop skills that I will need for future success in high school, college, and career.
