  3. Orientations • Student Orientation – Students come to the office for face-to-face training. The trainings are also made into Tegrity sessions that can be accessed from home for review. • Parent Orientation – Parents come to a mandatory meeting to learn how to use Blackboard and to check student grades and progress. • Teacher Orientation – Staff trains every June in a 2 week workshop to enhance courses and implement new technologies.

  4. Gateway Profile one-piece computers are checked out to each family. They are compact, portable and tech friendly!

  5. Gateway Tablets enable on-screen grading. This eliminates 2 time consuming steps - printing and scanning - in getting quick feedback to students.

  6. Tegrity Carts are used to create interactive teaching videos. Tegrity uses high compression techniques that allow video access regardless of connection speed.

  7. We now have Tegrity Tablets for portability and teacher convenience. Teachers can check equipment out for several days to create in the comfort of their own homes.

  8. Purevoice is a free software that allows students to create voice recordings that can be e-mailed directly to their online teacher or saved and submitted to the gradebook.

  10. 4th Grade Math – Year 6 Using StudyMate activities and Respondus tests and quizzes gives students interactive lessons.

  11. With BrainPOP teachers can incorporate animated videos and activities that are ideal for visual learners.

  12. Hands-on Activities using Science Probes

  13. Field trips and other scheduled activities are great family connections.

  14. Quizzes created in Respondus and uploaded to Blackboard Assessment System.

  15. Using a hybrid of Blackboard activities and PlatoWeb for math courses has doubled passing grades this year.

  16. Lectora Publisher adds a webpage look and feel to Blackboard for a more interactive lesson.

Lessons Learned… • Teachers need to understand the differences in online vs. face-to-face teaching, mentoring, grading • Students need small group/individual training to get started • 3 courses completed each quarter is better than a full schedule of 6 courses over a semester • Parents need computer use training and training on how to monitor students at home electronically • Courses must support multiple learning styles and include interactive learning experiences
