  1. What Does Jesus Think Of The Church (Smyrna) – Revelation 2:8-11

  2. As we have considered what Jesus thinks of the church… • We’ve seen a church that had lost its 1st love. (Revelation 2:1-7) • The church at Ephesus was told by the Lord to repent - or else. • These letters aren’t just a history lesson! • Today we will continue considering what Jesus thinks of the church by looking to the church in Smyrna.

  3. What Does Jesus Think of the Church? (Revelation 2:8-11) • Salutation; Self-Designation (2:8) • Commendation (2:9) • (No Condemnation for this church) • A Warning, not “against” them(2:10) • Exhortation and Promise (2:11)

  4. He Who Has An Ear Smyrna is a church that is passing through martyrdom, & this would apply to many churches throughout the Roman empire. We can learn a lot from Jesus’ words to this church that received no condemnations from the Lord.

  5. “He Who Has An Ear” – Revelation 2:8-11 • We can find comfort in the resurrection of the Lord, and what that means for us. • The Lord observes and notes our works… our troubles • And He assures us of the true riches in Him. • We’ve been reminded that one of the true measures of faith – is that we will not allow fear to stop us. • Tribulations are but for a time • If you remain faithful unto death, the Lord will give you a crown of life. • This message is for us, just as much as it was for the brethren in Smyrna. • Those who overcome shall not be hurt by the 2nd death!
