The transport aviation fitness landscape: Considering how different a new engine architecture will be to the turbofan, it should logically lead to a new airframe schema The problem now facing manufacturers is that the jump to the highest peak requires a massive intellectual leap across a significant ‘chasm’, especially considering the emotional and professional commitment to the existing design - few engineers or managers have worked on anything else in their careers
