  1. PS2 Naming Conventions:the Options Accelerators and Beams Department Controls Group Data Management Section Ronny Billen 15 June 2009

  2. Naming Conventions in the Accelerator Sector • Three Naming Conventions are in use • LHC : Quality Assurance Plan (since 1998) • Policy, Definitions, Procedures, Standards, Templates, Instructions • Equipment Naming Conventions, Part Identification (machine elements) • Entities and Entity Parameters (scope extension, since 2004) • SPS : Quality Assurance Document (2005) • Naming Conventions for Equipment Identifiers • PS-Complex (PX): Quality Assurance Document (since 2004) • Naming Conventions for Equipment Identifiers • Procedures are in place to follow the Naming Conventions • New projects can adhere to an existing QAP • Linac4 3-MeV Test Stand followed PX naming (2004) • Linac4 i.e. LEBT L4L, DTL L4D, CCDTL L4C, PIMS L4P, TL L4T will follow LHC-inspired-PX naming (2008) • PS2 naming convention to be agreed Censored PS2 Naming Conventions

  3. Scope of the Naming Conventions • Following codes are syntactically identical in LHC, SPS, PX • Equipment Code • 5-character codes • 3 official lists of (some systems use only 1) • Equipment Design • EDMS centralized 10-character codes • Based on QAP-code, Equipment Code • Engineering Drawings • EDMS/CDD centralized 10-character code • Based on Project Code, Equipment Code • Physical Equipment • EDMS/MTF centralized 19-character code • Based on QAP-code, Equipment Code • Layout Component • Based on Equipment Code in LHC, SPS conventions • Based on Oscar-Barbalat mnemonic in PX convention PS2 Naming Conventions

  4. Layout naming LHC versus PS-complex <machine prefix>.<OB type><position> PR.DVT02PR.C4077F61.BHZ01L4L.QFC03130 PS-Complex Optional, if useful <machine prefix>. <equipment code>.<position> .<family> LHC Not explicitly used in LHC Rule #1: different equipment type  different equipment code MB.A12R1MCBV.12R1.B1 Rule #2: first letter equipment code system letter ACSCA.D5L4.B1 BPM.9L3.B2CTRV.01SR6.BLMRSYSNI.01SR2 Rule #3: Equipment codes are officially published L4L.MQF.0415 PS2 Naming Conventions
