  1. Greek Chic Welcome to Ancient Greece!

  2. What are we going to be learning? Our BIG questions: - What motivates a character? - How has Ancient Greece influenced us? Our MEDIUM Questions: - Why is the Odyssey considered an epic? Our SMALL questions: - Which gods are considered the “major” gods?

  3. Your Mission….. • To read and understand The Odyssey • To present your knowledge IN SOME WAY to your classmates • To attend a Greek festival in the true Greek spirit

  4. I need to know: • What do you know about the Ancient Greeks? • What do you want to know about the Ancient Greeks? • How can you learn that? How can I help you learn that?

  5. The Oracles of Ancient Greece When the Greeks had a question, they went high up into the volcanic mountains to consult a priestess called an oracle. They were usually young women the Greeks believed had the power to communicate with the Gods. (Probably, the fumes from the volcano made these girls a little loopy, which the Greeks interpreted as “fortune telling.”)

  6. Probably looked something like this

  7. You don’t have an oracle – you have me • So, any time you have a question about Greek mythology, The Odyssey, the Greek gods or anything related to this unit, write it on a piece of paper and stick that to the back bulletin board. • It does not need your name. • I will attempt to answer every question within one week of it being posted.

  8. What questions do you have right now about this? What comments do you want to make right now? What are you looking forward to about this unit? What are you dreading about this unit?

  9. But for now Let’s meet the major gods of Ancient Greece! During the video, fill in the information for one god in your “olympian god” chart. Make sure you include all the details you can!
