DA-06-09 Establish GEOSS Best Practice Registry Work to be performed: Request hosting proposals and recommend host to maintain GEOSS Best Practices Registry, associated to GEOSS societal benefit areas. Establish GEOSS Best Practices Registry according to an agreed process for editorial review. 3. Launch agreed process and solicit GEOSS Best Practices input from GEOSS Members and Participating Organizations.

  2. Schedule Start: 2nd Quarter 2006 Draft of Approach: June 2006 End: End of Year 2006; may not make it if limited response Accomplishments: Emailed out to potential responders; no response yet. Met with Ruth Duerr of CU/NSIDC and agreed on a work breakdown for the two of us. Agreed that we must email contact more people to contribute to this effort. How do we do that within the GEO context – support from Secretariat?

Status • June 15, 2006 Contacts with Task Team have been initiated. • CEOS has requested to join the team (no response yet). • GTOS expressed interest in proactive participation (no response yet). • Team meeting will be planned for the first half of July (delayed to the fall). • Prof. William Emery has accepted the role of Lead POC.

Future Actions • Contact all GEO members to solicit their interest and find a home for the Best Practices Registry. • Task team needs to query the wider community for a larger list of Best Practices for the Registry. • Meet with interested parties by email and telecons in August/September. • Coordinate with new NRC panel on geophysical data (Emery is a member).
