  1. Welcome to the SECOND Beta Meeting of 2013-2014!!!!!!

By Law Change • Current: • The offices elected for this club will be: President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Historian, Warden and Relay for Life Team Captain/Chair. • Officers for the next school year will be elected in March or April of the previous school year • Proposed Change: • The offices elected for this club will be: President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Historian, Warden, Relay for Life Team Captain/Chair, and Member at Large. • Officers for the next school year will be elected in March or April of the previous school year, except for Member at Large, who will be a non-senior, appointed by the Sponsor

  4. Fundraising • Every Beta member is required to sell at least one book. • You should have sold the books by now; the deadline was September 30th!!!! • Anyone who has not turned in their money is on the debt list  • Dominique Smith – 5 books!

  5. Hours • Beta is a national club, and thus has standards that must be kept • Every member has two options • Complete 50 hours of Beta Events • Complete 25 hours of Beta Events and attend two leadership conferences

  6. Leadership Conferences • What: These conferences are mandatory for any member that doesn’t complete the 50 required hours – plan on attending just in case!!!! • When: Saturday, Nov. 9 • 9am - noon • Where: TBT • THERE WILL BE AN EVENTBRITE SIGN UP FOR THIS SO WE KNOW HOW MANY TO PLAN FOR

  7. Induction Ceremony – October 10 • Very Important: ALL members must attend the Induction Ceremony • Arrive promptly at 6:00pm • Remember, this is a special event so wear business/dressy clothing • You are welcome to bring your parents and siblings too! • Sign up sheet for returning members to bring items in

Zoo Boo – October 5, October 20 • WE NEED MORE PARTICIPATION!! • Only a few have signed up… Will YOU able to come and save the day?? • What: Volunteers interact with children and are involved in Halloween-themed games and events • When: Volunteer work starts at 5:00 pm, If you plan on attending don’t be late!!! • Where: Lowry Park Zoo • EVENTBRITE SIGN UP – CHECK YOUR EMAIL DAILY! • Paperwork available here! • Turn in your volunteer paperwork to Alexus AFTER the event!

  9. Making Strides Against Breast Cancer – October 19 • This event occurs in the morning, so you can go to both Homecoming and Making Strides!! • What: We cheer, yell and support the walkers and as they undertake their long journey • When: Please get there by 7:30am. We should be done around 11:00am. • Where: Tampa Bay Times Forum • THERE IS AN EVENTBRITE SIGN UP FOR THIS!

  10. Homecoming Float/wagon • We have just started really working on building the smaller parts because we don’t have all the materials yet. • The dates for the next meetings are: today after school until 4 and September 7&9 and the week of homecoming the 14 &15. • Does anyone have a wagon that we can use for the pep rally? • As far as if you want to come but you haven’t been to any other meets, you can still come and get the hours for being there

  11. Bras for a Cause – October 22 • This year will be the third annual Bras for a Cause Event!!!! • What: This is a fundraiser done to raise awareness for Relay for Life. All proceeds go to the American Cancer Society • When: The actual event • takes place on Oct. 22; • voting will occur from Oct 23-25 • Where: TBT

  12. October 31 – You will miss 1st – 4th period and have lunch 5th period 2 members who will develop an activity, set up our table, dress in costume and stay at the event the whole time. Individually wrapped candy – 1 hour per bag (3 max per member); give to Mrs. H. by October 25

  13. Light the Night – November 2 • This event is a fundraiser for the Leukemia Lymphoma Society • What: a walk around the track for Leukemia Lymphoma Society • When: Get there by 4:00 pm; done by 9:30pm • Where: George M. Steinbrenner Field • THERE WILL BE AN EVENTBRITE SIGN UP FOR THIS!

  14. Trot Thru the Terrace – November 16 • Community Event • Beta will be helping with registration and at the water stations. • When: Nov 16 at 7:00am • Where: 405 S. Riverhills Dr. (Temple Terrace) THERE WILL BE AN EVENTBRITE SIGN UP FOR THIS!

  15. Beta State Convention – January 27-29. 2014 • One of our ultimate goals this year is to get as many students as possible to attend the Beta State Convention • The convention will happen in Orlando in the beautiful Florida Hotel!

  16. CONVENTION COMPETITIONS • State Officer • Academic Competitions: (one member for each competition) • English • Math • Science • Social Studies • Oratorical • Spelling • Creative Writing • Spanish • Quiz Bowl (4 members) • Senior Scholarship (any senior attending convention may compete)

Artistic Competitions: Photography (color & black/white; still & action; digitally enhanced) On site art (acrylics, pen/ink) Acrylic Art Computer Graphics Sketching (black/white & color) Watercolors Wreath-Making Mixed Media Stitchery Woodworking Ceramics Special Talent – 4 or fewer students Group Talent – 5 or more students Banner

October 30 Deadline to sign up for a competition November 14 Mandatory Parent Meeting for anyone attending convention - 6:30pm - TBT Cafeteria Nov. 18 Deadline to pay for convention January 17 Depart for convention at noon January 19 Return to TBT approx. 2pm Costs: $150 per member - includes registration, hotel and transportation. Must bring money for food - food court in the mall!

  19. Relay for Life - • Probably the single biggest Beta Event of the year! • When: April 11-12, 2014 • Where: Greco Middle School • We fundraise ALL YEAR for this cause! • Sign up now to be on our team! • www.relayforlife.org/templeterracefl • Our team name is TBTBeta
