  2. What is task analysis? Task analysis… takes any task and breaks it into small steps

  3. Example Hand washing can be broken down into many smaller steps:

  4. Why is it important? • The task is easier to do! • The person feels less overwhelmed! • Everyone feels successful ! • It works!!

  5. How to get started… 1. Think of a task a person wants to learn Make a sandwich Paint a picture Get ready for bus Play cards

  6. Stop…think about the person • Does the person need lots of steps to learn the task? • Does the person need only a few? • Where does the person need to start?

  7. Next… 2. Make a list of all the steps. 3. Add pictures, if helpful. Steps to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich: Step 1. Spread peanut butter. Step 2. Spread jelly. Step 3. Press 2 slices together.

  8. Now its your turn… Step 1. Thinking of a task? Here’s one: brushing hair

  9. There’s no magic number… Step 2 – List the steps • Pick up hair brush • Brush hair from top of head down • Repeat • Put brush down

  10. These pictures might work… Step 3. Add pictures

  11. Remember… Teach the person only one step at a time until they have learned it. Don’t forget to praise the person! Praise often!
