  4. Babysitter Training Babysitting in the Community: • Meets the demand of Babysitter’s Training in your community. Parents want youth who are trained to be safe, responsible babysitters. • Help youth develop leadership and business skills they can apply to many areas of their lives. • Generate revenue for your organization. • Help meet Girl Scout badge requirements and 4-H requirements. • Help meet school curriculum requirements (Health, Science, and Family and Consumer Science)

Babysitter’s Training Babysitter’s Training teaches young people how to: • Care for children and infants. • Be good leaders and role models. • Make good decisions, solve problems and stay safe. • Handle emergencies such as injuries, illness, and household accidents. • Write resumes and interview for jobs.

  7. Babysitter’s Training Course Participants • Males and females • At least age 11. Most states require children to be age 11 before they can be left alone for short periods of time without adult supervision. According to the Georgia Department of Human Services: Parents should carefully weigh their options before leaving children home alone this summer. Children age 13 and older generally can be left home alone, but shouldn’t be left home overnight. Children under 8 years of age, however, should never be left home alone even for short periods of time. Parents must assess the maturity and responsibility of their children before deciding whether or not to leave a child alone.

Babysitter’s Training Course Instructor Credentials: Your instructor, Shujuan Shannon, • Trained by the American Red Cross to teach the Red Cross Babysitter’s Training Course. • Teaches middle school full-time • Volunteers with the Children’s Restoration Network • Has a Master’s Degree in School Counseling

  9. Babysitter’s Training Course Length • 1 day: 7 hours with a 30 minute break OR • 2 days: 3.5 hours each day with a 15 min. break each day. This design works perfectly for After school programs, summer camps, and weekend classes.

  10. Babysitter’s Training Class Size • For this particular class, a maximum of 8 students is recommended. • An additional adult from your organization is welcomed to assist with supervision.

  11. Babysitter’s Training Materials, Equipment, and Supplies Participant Materials (included in fee) • Each participant will receive: • Babysitter’s Handbook • Emergency Resource Booklet • CD ROM

  12. Babysitter’s Training Your organization will need to provide the following: • T.V • DVD Player • Remote Control • A room with tables and chairs • An LCD Projector and screen are optional

  13. Babysitter’s Training Your Instructor will provide: • Paper • Markers • Curriculum • Infant manikins, accessories, and supplies • And lots of fun!!!!!!!

  14. Babysitter's Training The Curriculum Lesson 1: Leadership Lesson 2: The Business of Babysitting Lesson 3: Safety Lesson 4: Understanding Kids Lesson 5: Caring for Kids Lesson 6: Emergencies

  15. Babysitter's Training Certification Requirements for Participants • Attend all classes. • Demonstrate competency in all required skills throughout the course. • Complete test with 80% or better. Certification means that on a particular date an instructor verified that course participants met the above criteria. Competency is defined as being able to perform each skill to meet the objective without guidance.
