  2. Ice Detection and Warning! • Harris Overpass • 2 DMS signs • Signs controlled by Vaisala DSC111 non intrusive sensor • Plans to implement second system on 27thst. viaduct.

  3. Cornhusker HWY High Water Warning System. • Control of 4 DMS • Monitoring of water levels at 2 underpasses • Informs motorists which underpass is closed.

  4. UNL Testbeds. • 2 separate studies • Safe Track Protection and Advanced Warning system • Evaluation of Pedestrian Countdown Signals • 3 different intersections • Diverse array of sensors and communications

  5. AVL • Star Tran AVL • Complete Nov 10, 2010 • 1.5 Million Dollars • 72 Busses enabled • http://getonboard.lincoln.ne.gov

  6. Network Asset Monitoring. • OpenNMS • Network Monitor • Open Source • Measures multiple network parameters • Logs events, notify of problems, create reports. • Allows us to identify potential problems before they happen

  7. What are our assets in the field? • Over 50 traffic monitoring cameras • DMS • Fixed and mobile • Communications network • 60+ Miles of Fiber • Reuse of existing copper infrastructure • Wireless • Other – RWIS, Ice Detection, Misc devices.

  8. Future of Lincoln’s ITS. • Early stages of asset sharing between NDOR and City of Lincoln • Cameras • DMS • RWIS (Road Weather Information System) • Continue our partnership with UNL • Wind power generation study at 84th and HWY 2 • Whittier Research Center

  9. Automating of traffic counts • Using both loops and video detection/analysis • Ice Detection/Warning 27th St. at BNSF Viaduct • Public Works AVL • West Haymarket Arena

  10. Continue to pursue funding for ITS projects • Update the regional ITS architecture. • Ensure ITS remains a key component of the Lincoln MPO’s 2040 Comprehensive Plan
