Reading Selection • The Origin of the Thao: the six main settlements of the Thao • Ancestor Worship and Thao Religious Ceremonies: the “ancestral spirits basket” symbolizes the eternal communion of the Thao with their forefathers; the important festivals in the Thao calendar are held to secure the continued blessings and favor of the Thao's ancestors. • Pestle Music: the music is performed by a number of people wielding wooden pestles of varying lengths, involving the rhythmic pounding of pestles against stone slabs. • The Thao of the Sun Moon Lake: regarding language, blood relationship, and culture, the Thao are very different from the Tsou tribe. • The Thao Harvest Festival: for the Thao, the Harvest Festival is to celebrate the coming of their new year.
